I'm tired of reliving the same old experiences from my childhood over and over again. I want new retro games!

One of these makes sense. The other is a bad "translation" from the 90s.

Yes, but it's probably not the one you're thinking of.

>translator completely misunderstands why a character is named what she is
>changes the name
>fucks up the actual intended meaning
If anything, this is why translators should just translate and not try to second-guess intent and attempt to "improve" on things.

Actually a pretty good example of why translators should just translate, yes. This was probably a mistake, not an intentional change, but it's still a change for the worse that the more accurate translation improved on.

Yes, anon, translators should just translate instead of eliminating text for no sensible reason.

I always think why no one make an entire translation of the game from scratch aside the GBA translation if this translation was awful in first place

>> No.5368563

That's literally why the GBA translator pushed Square Enix to let him retranslate the game instead of just copypasting the SNES translation over. He was a fan of the game and thought it deserved better.

Elaborate, if you can.

Because:
1) The GBA translation is good, so the game doesn't need another retranslation
2) It's a big game, so that's a lot of work for something that doesn't really need it
3) Autistic fanboys of the old translation are known for organized trolling of anyone that wants to provide an alternative to it

Tina is named Tina because the two main protagonists' names can be combined to form "Celestina". Woolsey misunderstood and thought it was just some random ass western name that "probably sounded exotic to nips", so he changed it to something he pulled out of his ass, and thus fucked over the actual meaning of it.

No, they just troll those who like the GBA translation out of hatred for Tom Slattery.

Celestina is an eighteenth-century English novel and poet Charlotte Turner Smith’s third novel. Published in 1791 by Thomas Cadell, the novel tells the story of an adopted orphan who discovers the secret of her parentage

Neat.
