Why did they think the button button needs to confirm, in stark defiance to the intent of the symbols? Maybe the symbols didn't make any sense but, FFS, on an SNES controller the right button confirms and that's clearly what they were going for when they designated these buttons.

I can remember red because that's the confirm but outside of that I couldn't be sure and I can't be sure which letter corresponds to which face button. With Sony's I can remember exactly which symbol is which button instantly and at least Sony stuck o the layout instead of going haywire with it like Nintendo did
