Ironically /vr/ is the only classic gaming forum I've seen that actually discusses the games to any significant degree. Everywhere else it's all pictures of shelves, "hauls", "where to find cheap games", "how do I connect my SNES to my HDTV", etc., or just braindead memes fishing for likes/upvotes/whatever.

I agree, there's substantive discussion here. Shit, right now, there's a Baldur's Gate thread that has stayed on-topic for 300+ posts. The Doom/Quake threads regularly max out at 500+ and remain on topic. Even at /lit/, which considers itself the smartest board on 4channel, discussions about theology or whatever often devolve into people calling each other Jews after like the 15th response.
