Beyond the Beyond was an okay game.

There's literally nothing this game does worse than something like Breath of Fire which gets shilled here constantly

Golden Sun is also trash. But at least looks good.

This game seems interesting to me,from the mixed opinions I read I feel like it's just an okay JRPG and I love how it looks during the battles.I might try it at some point.

That game is fine. It's a perfectly serviceable early ps1 era JRPG that is basically a slightly beefed up SNES game.

Not him but it is quite boiler plate. My theory is that Nintendo was so starved for RPGs throughout 5th gen that once this game - one of not-quite-but-almost the same quality as the SNES RPGs of old - came out, the sheer elation erupted out of the playerbase. It's because of that sudden and especially strong surge of happiness over this game that it has an usually high level of nostalgia attached to it too.

It shouldn't be understated that GS1 was a very early title too, it's one of the only serviceable RPGs the GBA had for quite a while

It must have played a role, and in Europe back were there weren't that many JRPGs, it was GBA kids' first foray into the genre. One of my coworkers was fond of the game because of this.
As BtB, it's a generic RPG, but it adds puzzles, similar to what Wild Arms and Lufia 2 did to stand out. Plus the visuals are nice and Sakuraba was at his best during this era, so I get the success.

Golden Sun also got an english version by Treehouse emblematic of modern localization flaws.

The basic translation is off and gets a lot of things completely wrong, the consistency between weapons and spells of similar nature is off, and the text is inflated to unreasonable degrees because they thought simple concise answers are bad, and they had the gall to add pop jokes on top of that.
The result is that the English version is a SLOG to play through.

It's a pattern that keep repeating itself, culminating with The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword and Fi's text, which they made LONGER, even more uninteresting, and halved the text speed.

I actually really enjoyed BtB as a kid. It was hard.

It's ridiculous how many JRPG IPs that Sony own that they're blatantly never going to touch again. I'm probably forgetting a few, too.

>it's a generic RPG
What does generic mean for you? That it doesn't feature a cast of characters with traumas and big tits?
>Great music
>Great animation
>Great gameplay inside and outside the battlefield
>Every town is detailled and you can even read what every npc is thinking
>"Is generic"

Holy shit
>t's a generic RPG, but it adds puzzles, similar to what Wild Arms and Lufia 2 did to stand out. Plus the visuals are nice and Sakuraba was at his best during this era
So, iit is a generic game that happens to be quality contect, lol. So much for a generic rpg.

Everything you listed is something all RPGs worth their salt have. What makes it generic is that when it comes to the core gameplay, there's dozens of games just like it.

Oreshika was a sequel to the Japan-only "Ore no Shikabane o Koete Yuke", which was on the PS1 and saw a PSP port a few years later.

What makes Camelot game's ENDLESS TEXT so unbearable? I can play through the 2 hour intro of any persona game just fine, but any Camelot game, even things like Mario Golf RPG mode always give me the "Just get it over with" every time, is it the text sound?

>> No.5356073

The text sucks. It's really generic and boring, with every generic character reacting to every little thing.

Turning off that dialogue gibberish sound is the absolute first thing I did in Golden Sun.
