normal gameplay- while flying, collect 20 blue orbs and take it to the claw machine and then go back to base.
score gameplay- try to quickly chain the most amount items and giants rings you can while doing tricks and using all of the time it gives you.

figuring out the ideal path for score is pretty fun. but after awhile you'll only get A's and wish there was a grade higher. some laps you can actually loop the entire thing for a crazy score.

Fly through the course collectingr orbs and getting combos. When you look back around, do it backwards. Do this until you're close on time, kill the Hatcher, and repeat.

You rush to collect the required orbs as quickly as possible, then use your remaining time to collect points. It's meant to be played like an arcade game.

After you get blue spheres and acquire the big sphere that's stuck in its container, you avoid that little shrine you start the level at until the timer starts running low, while chaining as many collectibles in a row as you can, because that's how you get score, and getting the high score is where the fun in this game comes from, because it's a traditional arcade game developed for a console at a time where that probably wasn't the best idea.

NiGHT's into Dreams plays fine without the 3D pad, but the 3D pad does add more precision to the game overall. NiGHTS is a great game regardless, as others have said it is very arcade like.

Sega actually debuted the 3D Pad alongside NiGHTS into Dreams and even had a second big box copy which included the game and the 3D pad together.

NiGHTS and the 3D gamepad was Sega's attempt at competing with the launch of the N64. they were released in Japan about about a week after Nintendo launched their N64 console in Japan.

Get orbs, put 20 in the transparent crystal dome and it explodes giving you an 'Ideya' to take back to NiGHTS's shrine. Your score's doubled while holding the Ideya so collect/chain all you can. If you can get the Ideya quickly you've usually got time for a lap and a half, maybe more of doubled score, if that is your chosen method of score milking. There's others and often just certain areas that can be ground for score. Just ensure you can get to NiGHTS's shrine before time runs out. Get back and you're graded and start the next course. There's 4 and then a boss for every world.

Run out of time and you're reverted back to kid form and lose your score for that course. You'll drop all your orbs which you can regather for -some- score. A clock chases you as you follow the arrow back to NiGHTS's shrine. You turn transparent if its beam hits you. If it hits you again, game over. You're almost guaranteed below C rank if you lose NiGHTS, but the game goes on an average rank per course for your final world grade - you can afford to fuck up once or so. Bosses go on how fast you can beat them for extra score multiplier but just beating them 's usually enough.

You absolutely need C or above on every world to unlock the final world in each kid's scenario and their ending once you've done that. Beating both gets you an extended ending where both kids meet, and there's a different segment whether you did Claris->Eliot or Eliot->Claris.

Christmas NiGHTS is the same but your rank also determines how many chances you get per clear at a memory card matching game. Every pair nets you a bonus mode/feature.
