Some people seem to be frustrated because it isn't in the same style as most other Zelda titles, but it's a fantastic sidescrolling action RPG. Some people also get frustrated because the game is challenging. Do you want to talk about the game's overall structure or level design?

Zoomers listened to dumbass e-celebs.

This game is solid and everyone thought so back then. It was different, for sure. But it was good.

>> No.5343970

It's not bad, but only having magic and no tools is pretty lame. And the magic spells aren't that interesting either.

Game journalists who re-wrote history with their third-grade level analysis.

>Hurrrr if Zelda 3 looked like Zelda 1 then that surely means Zelda 2 was a disaster!

>> No.5344078

I remember when this game came out and everyone loved it. Yes, Zelda was a great game if not a little cryptic but when Zelda 2 came out it was like stepping into the future. Although it has it downsides, Zelda 2 was the game me and all my friends were rushing to own and beat.

It's kind of hard to describe. It just wasn't fun to pick up and play.

I disagree. The combat lent itself very well to pick up and play sessions.

Agreed. It was thought of similarly to Mario 2(us) as kind of a bump in the road and most of us we’re just happy the original got a sequel because that meant a chance of more and hopefully better sequels.
Zelda 2 was for RPG dragon warrior/final fantasy type fags that played d&d. You weren’t cool if you liked Zelda 2 back then.

You can kinda tell it was supposed to be some other game like a Mario 2 scenario.

Nothing at all.
It was created and developed as the way it was because of the rise, demand and interesting in more action orientated rpgs games in japan. So how about you go back to whatever shit hole you came from, probably reddlt, youtube eceleb shit or tumblr.

Except a lot of enemy placement is bullshit, the combat is simplistic as fuck, the magic is unbalanced (some is great, others are useless), the game is confusing as all fuck with absolutely no clues or hints given on where you're supposed to go next, has so much cryptic bullshit that you practically NEED a guide to complete it, and has an obnoxious amount of traveling in it, etc. etc. the list goes on

In almost every way it was inferior to the original.

The 20th century was this magical time when it was possible for people to be completely unaware of things that were hugely popular with other people. I miss those days without internet sometimes.

So it’s a lot like the original game, then.

I enjoyed it immensely. it was refreshing and challenging and fun to map out. I wish more sequels would try new things out, rather than rehashing the same game mechanics for the nth time. Another good example of this is Starfox vs Starfox 2.

The biggest problem this game has is the backtracking. Other than that it isn't that bad.

If you think Zelda 2 has a lot of backtracking then I assume you haven't played any non-linear platform or adventure game in general. The overworld only has a few instances of that if you go the way you're supposed to and the dungeons themselves aren't that hard to figure out where to go to backtrack too much (leave that to the second quest of the original game).

>>5345620
>>5345682
Unless you're talking about the second quest of Zelda 1, it seems like you never actually played the NES Zelda games. Both of them aren't that hard to know where to go, especially if you just want to beat the game. Out of all those games for the NES those two are in the top 5 that are easy to beat next to Mario 1, Kirby's Adventure and Megaman 2. I'm not even a gitgud hardcore player or anything but shit if you guys think those games are hard then you haven't played a lot of games yet.

As a person whose first zelda experience was ALTTP, this one seems kinda interesting to me. I didn't get to play it yet. I played the first one and it felt like a downgrade, unsurprisingly, since some NES games felt like that to me, for instance, metroid, contra, megaman. Obviously it feels that way because my first nintendo console was the SNES. I enjoyed some NES originals more like castlevania and super mario bros and lost levels are the best mario games for me.
