Nope, everyone I knew played a ton of games except some especially poor friends but even they would come over and play vidya at my place. There weren't many cliques in my school probably because I grew up in a small town and everyone got along fairly well. I can't imagine it's any different these days now that games are even more easily accessible and everyone's better off.

Fuck no. My dad was playing video games since Battlezone and had an SNES and gaming computer, so he never gave a shit. Sister used to play JRPGs, Diablo, and tabletop shit with her husband back when they were teenagers. The computer network at my high school had Quake 3 and AOE2 installed and a third of the school would play deathmatch with a shitload of skins.

The OP image is living proof that people will take memes as actual fact.

Prior to Street Fighter 2, young girls were almost as much into video games as young boys. It was the weird guys who went to arcades to play SF2 that scared them off. Then the game industry started focusing almost exclusively on male teenagers.

Before the NES days, there wasn't much difference in popularity in games between the genders. The golden age of arcade was entirely gender neutral (or rather nobody gave a fuck about gender) in its focus. If there was any gender bias during that period it was purely down to more game programmers being male.

My dad was the one who got me into playing video games. He had an Atari 2600 JR and bought the family a NES. To be honest, I can't think of a time when anyone I knew was ever ostracized for playing video games. I grew up in Canada, and video games were generally pretty universally accepted throughout the late 1980's and 1990's. I'm serious. Other than a few people I knew being mocked for their addiction to World of Warcraft. I can't think of a time when it was universally frowned upon.

>> No.5328586

Ostracized may be too strong a word. What personal hobby that isn't hurting or offending anyone are people actually ostracized for? But a stigma or people thinking it was weird for an adult to like them was abundant. Most people here were kids or minus ages through most of "retro times", I think that for a 25+ year old to be into NES when it was out would have been very unusual.

I've only ever seen three types of videogame related bullying in my life
1. Poor kids getting bullied for having last gen systems
2. Autists being bullied because they won't shut up about a series when nobody is interested. (But the series itself is, at worst, ignored.)
3. Annoying non-autist kids having their preferred series used as a way to goad them into giving a reaction, even if the series is actually reasonably popular. (i.e. everyone liked pokemon, but would tell one guy pokemon was for kids because he'd yell about how it wasn't. sometimes he'd find them playing pokemon and act smug, but still get socially heemed.)

Combined with parents who didn't get it. I've never actually seen anything like the stereotypical image of a normal 12 year old being bullied for playing Mario 64 circa 1996.

I've seen a couple guys here and there act like gatekeepers to girls, wanting to test them in their vidya knowledge to see if they are worthy of the title 'gamer' (feel cringy just describing how autistic this is), but I've actually seen girls judged far more by other girls. A lot of girls I know would shame/judge their classmates for playing games or having other hobbies they deemed male centric or boyish (this is hs and college for me), and one girl I knew even said she "wouldn't have friends who played video games". Needless to say we didnt hang out after long and I did get a good chuckle one lunch when I saw her playing fruit ninja on her phone, but these people overall are the shallow minority from my experiences, and definitely not enough to deter someone unless your only friends are like this.

The children just need to be prodded in the right direction. Pepe posters have a higher chance of developing a soul than urban bugmen.

>>5335192
Nice gaslighting. My point was the content of his posts, not the forum.

If you lack the frontal lobe activity to follow a simple chain of conversation, stop wasting everyone's time and stick to upvote oriented websites which can curate your thoughts for you.

You don't honestly believe that cancer can have a soul, do you?

the point is if reading culture of critique is supposed to give these children a soul ro whatever, then why is everyone i see who actually reads and agrees with it a pepeposting memester? it's almost as if this aryan ideal you're larping about is a complete fantasy

really? not sure why you'd be on a video game forum on an anime website if you think both of these things are so pathetic. you're just upset that i'm not weakly rationalizing your delusions along with you

>>5335226
Nah, my argument was about content not forum, but like I've said several times you are desperate to argue against some straw man. This is because you are an NPC who is unable to follow a chain of conversation, and you were probably embarrassed by a bad point you made higher up so you're trying to lead the conversation down a different path.

Desperate and sad really.

None of that stuff has anything to do with calling video games an irrelevant bugman hobby or whining about porn and Japanimation. While there are problems with contemporary neckbeard culture, your posts come across like they were written by an overcompensating nerd.

I said whining about women playing video games and video game "politics" was a bugman hobby.

Porn is objectively bad for men and women as well, say one bad thing about it and addicts of all political stripes get up in arms.

yeah the content of your posts is pretty much exactly the same as these frogposters. even to the point of still crying about muh npcs even though the rest of the frogs got bored of that meme a couple months ago. that's pretty much my point. i don't know what you're actually doing differently here besides insisting that you're different. just because twitter pepes can't hide behind the mask of anonymity as well as you can and have to take more responsibility for their conflicting ideology and lifestyle doesn't make you any less pathetic. quite the opposite really

You should really read the entire sentence before quoting to avoid looking like a dumbass.

Additionally, you should also learn the definitions of the logical fallacies you see on reddit before parroting them (also to avoid looking like a dumbass). Just a suggestion though.

This discussion is totally inane. Look where you are, this is a board for advanced bugmen who graduated from /v/ school of pointless media consumption. The smarter ones of us figured out how to loot the lesser bugmen for money long ago, either by practicing arbitrage on novelties (aka "collecting"), or by entering the legal grey area of selling emulation devices. Why do you shits have to try to turn everything into political youtuber drama?

Not the guy you're arguing with, but the sentence is definitely ambiguously worded and easy to misinterpret.

It could either be:
>{Complaining about video games} and other bugmen hobbies
OR
>Complaining about {video games and other bugmen hobbies}

Your post could have been worded better, man, no need to be an ass about it.
