Everyone seemed to be doing pretty alright in the world, actually, and in the sequels to WW Link and Zelda even find other lands that are still around. The moral of the story is that the world may have changed drastically but life still carries on through the changes. Bringing back old Hyrule and that way of life would extinguish the current world and its way of life, so we should march onward and accept the changes instead of clinging to the past.

Not to mention, do you not remember what happened when Ganondorf achieved the power he sought and gained control over the land? Pic fucking related, the world became a hellscape that he ruled with terror and monsters from atop his giant hell-tower. Link had to go and fix all the shit that had gone wrong. And this is LITERALLY THE SAME GUY who you think is so sincere and sympathetic. If he got his wish he'd be ruling over everything as a magical dictator again because he's a manipulative, power-hungry psychopath and you're just buying into his story.

A lot of things went bad during his reign, but he did apparently stop undead children from rising out of the field every night and that’s a pretty significant improvement. I mean, I don’t know who else could be responsible for that.

Which roughly translates to:

The translation doesn't catch this but Ganondorf is speaking in an elderly, somewhat condescending tone. Much of Japanese is implied through tone and context. While you can pull some sympathy if you dig hard enough, the point was he was jealous of their prosperity and wanted it for himself. He saw himself deserving of it.

The English language fluffs up his language, making it seem more somber, poetic, and depressing. They literally added words and descriptive language that wasn't necessary. It completely changed the tone to something that doesn't line up with the stereotypical behavior of Ganondorf.
