Are there any guides to help a brainlet learnd JA2? I've played Silent Storm if that helps to have some basic knowledge of the genre.

Lilura's guide is a good (mostly spoiler-free) primer on how to get up and running but its comprehensiveness means it can be a pretty long read.

Do I need to play JG 1 first?
I tried JG 1 in 90s, but I didn't like it.
I never play JG 2 because I didn't like JG 1.
I love strategy and tactic games.
And I've been thinking to try these games a second chance.
What are the differences between JG 1 & JG 2?
What are the JG 2 mods features compared to vanilla JG 2?

Stracciatella is all you really need.
1.13 is at this point autistic mess from obsessive "fans" for obsessive "fans" and they will never finish it anyway.

Game FAQ? They have nice and tidy noob friendly guide who to hire.

Nope, you can go straight for JG2 and won't miss a thing.

>> No.5321137

Mortaring the fuck out of everything has never been funner.

I played JA2 for some 30 hours like a little bitch, taking potshots with sniper rifles from roofs. Only when I discovered other roles like grenadier, mortarer or the very awesome door breacher, did I realize that JA2 is, and will always be, the king of the genre.

- Forget stealth, it's almost useless in vanilla
- When you need to flush people out of a building, shoot the windows and throw grenades (gas and explosive) inside.
- If you hold ALT (I think), you can make the character move sideways or backwards. This is good when you want to move but keep looking at a certain direction. This is one of the best ways to avoid getting interrupted.
- Get the helicopter as soon as possible. I only got it near the end of the game, then I realized it helps a ton when moving items.
- When you start fighting the tanks, you can also mortar them instead of using rockets (which sometimes miss).
- When firing rockets at a level target (like the tanks), try go get at a higher elevation first. If you fire level with your target, there's a pretty big chance the rocket will just pass them by. If you fire from a higher position, at least the explosion will hit them.

Some mercs from JA1 appear in JA2, but since the story isn't about them, they won't matter in the slightest.

For a few playthroughs, I always thought melee in strategy games was rather shit, but after seeing how good it is in JA2, I changed my mind.

The only thing I don't like about JA2 is how every single motherfucker can hit a grenade on you with pinpoint accuracy. And I don't mean a grenade exploding in the midst of your men - I mean that guy who throws a mustard grenade while you have a gas mask on. That -1 from the grenade hitting you always pisses me off.

>Forget stealth, it's almost useless in vanilla
Bullshit. Granted, it doesn't come with the gorillion of options 1.13 offers for stealth and night stealth, but it's still viable.

It takes 5 times longer to clear a map. You also need to main burst weapons or throwing knives, and only attack people when they're not patrolling in pairs.

Can't remember if it's in vanilla as well, but in 1.13 if you clear the sector without raising alarm, enemy reinforcements won't come from adjacent sectors

it's a useful feature if you need to move quickly through sectors, or can't afford a larger battle, and just slipping by is not possible or the sector has some required items/NPCs under guard

I think people played 1.13 so much that they forget how vanilla was. In vanilla, stealth is almost useless because if you happen to attack an enemy while someone else is nearby, it doesn't matter if you kill the guy in one hit, the other guy will magically know you're there. You can mitigate that by using burst weapons (ironically), because they kill people fast enough from close distance so no others are alerted. But you still need to be careful if there are two people near each other.

Are Unfinished Business and/or Wildfire any good? I'm assuming they're not even close to Vanilla but more (good) JA2 is always welcome.

Is Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games good? I have it on GoG, I think I got it for free. Only JA game I've got.

Unfinished Business is just a mini-sequel to JA2. You can even import your merc. It's 12 to 15 hours long. The final missions can be a bitch, because there's a ton of traps and you're inside an enclosed space. One of the new mercs (Tex from JA1) is a claustrophobic, so that sucks.

I played JA2 soon after it came out and was absolutely hooked. It was one of those "just half an hour more" type of games when you suddenly realise it's 5:30 AM and you have school at 8:00 AM. I remember once being so out of sleep and immersed in the game I saw the world around me in action points. You know, moving my arm to my mouth, 4 AP. Walking to the front door, 24 AP. Turn knob, 2 AP.

Years later around 2010 I bought it again and got the 1.13 mod. It was a fucking blast. The gun porn... oh my. The ini editor was straightforward. Everything was just fun. Except the Drassen counter attack. That was and is retarded. Fortunately you could turn it off.

A couple of months ago I played once again. 1.13. A lot had been added, and not necessarily for the better. And then at midpoint in the game, it changes completely. All of sudden Deidreanna's forces are some kind of ultra-elite commandos, completely camouflaged, in fact I would not see where the shots were coming from when my squad was wiped out. And it wasn't snipers, it was close by. And they were everywhere. Every sector was red with enemies and all of them were elites. This was at experienced level. I quit after multiple tries, and haven't gone back.

I mean... what the fuck? If you're one of those who compulsively play it all year every year and need a challenge... fine, but make this happen in on a more difficult level. For everyone else it's fucking shit.
