I converted the Hexen Neural Upscale textures to the Hexen palette. Textures looks mostly fine, but almost every sprite has discoloration around the edges.

m_flak also makes it fire 6 pellets instead of 8, spreadt them too much, and the physics are completely wrong. The loss of velocity for one is too drastic.
Another thing is the altfire flak shell sends the flak at an angle forward in the UT, but it sends them forward in a spread in m_flak - makes half the flak impact the ground right away and halt there, combined with stiff physics makes it much less fun to use.
Also the UT'99 grenades are a bit floaty, but also maintain their velocity for quite a while. In m_flak they have aerodynamics of a turd and feel completely wrong.

The guy only picked GZDoom because he never had any experience with better engines (and budget as well) and was struggling with money (in Ukraine to sell a shitty 5 bucks indie game in steam is still a big money for living). I think when it releases the gameplay will be clunky and and it will slutter as fuck (you can see the fps drops even in trailer). the jaguar maps were designed to increase framerate. it worked because on ps and saturn, those maps run better than the doom 2 maps included on disk. its not like those ports were THAT significant of an upgrade anyways. They still ran in software which crippled performance. The playstation had the better end of the stick, while the saturn was just shafted.

If the ports used more of the hardware on the consoles, framerate might've seen an increase on both consoles. It also could've allowed for higher level geometry if it ran good enough.

Hard Doom is a great mod, has some of my favorite enemy replacements, however I really wish it was an enemy replacement mod instead of total gameplay.

So I just uploaded a new version of Doom Remake 4. It works out of the box and now has a nice installer (based on Inno Setup) which creates the shortcut on the desktop. The GZDoom version was updated to v3.7.2.

There's a legal and practical aspect to it.
Because with actual grenade shells, those are legally "Destructive Devices" in and of themselves (a Destructive Device can also define any firearm with a bore diameter larger than .50 caliber/12.7mm, which hasn't been determined to have a "sporting purpose", thus a grenade launcher can also be a Destructive Device).

What this means is that each live grenade has to be registered in accordance with the National Firearms Act, and requires a $200 tax (one must also pay this tax when transferring ownership of it), and in the case of grenades, each single one would require individual registration and tax. When the grenade is fired, you would have to report it destroyed to the ATF.
Further, for most explosives, there's a lot of very particular rules about storage and transportation.

Looking at a chamber adapter like the one pictured there, it may or may not require registration as an "Any Other Weapon" (kind of a blanket term the ATF uses for not just smoothbore pistols, and disguised firearms such as cane guns and pen guns, but a lot of 'miscellaneous' things as well), and either you only register/transfer it once, or you don't at all, and then you can just shoot normal shotgun shells and signal falres with it, or seen in that other image, .22 Long Rifle cartridges, either which will be MUCH cheaper and easier to source and store than actual 40x46mm grenades with explosive payloads.

There's a historical aspect to this too:
Back during the Vietnam War, when the US would start using the 40x46mm grenades and the M79, initially someone who was using one would be equipped with just the M79 and his sidearm, he wouldn't be carrying an M16 because he was carrying a launcher and grenades instead.

So this brings up a couple of issues, mainly that when its not time for him to launch grenades, the grenadier will just be sitting with his thumb in his butt and not really be able to contribute much to a fight, he can't be a rifleman and he has pretty limited options to defend himself.
Someone had the idea of; "Well, it kind of looks and handles a bit like a shotgun, why not give him some buckshot shells so he can be more useful?", so a 40mm buckshot shell, the M576, was developed. Contrary to what it sounds like at first, this wasn't some kind of giant shotgun shell putting out a wall of lead, it's more or less the payload and power of a pretty garden variety shotgun shell, only sized to fit in a 40mm launcher.
Turns out, this wasn't really that good of a solution, because it's just a couple of needlessly large and bulky shotgun shells (I also imagine they had ridiculous spread, given that the bore of the grenade launcher is rifled, and doesn't have the choke that a shotgun would have to tighten down shot patterns), and you'd be HOPELESSLY outranged by anyone with something bigger than a pistol.

Eventually, the underbarrel mounted launcher became a standardized thing, the M203, which could be mounted underneath a regular M16 rifle, acting as the launcher's grip and stock, and also still being a rifle. Now, a grenadier could also be a rifleman, which makes him MUCH more useful to a squad.

The idea of a shotgun shell adapter, or a multiple small cartridge kind of adapter, sort of lets you play around with how that kind of "buckshot" solution was, getting a feel for it, and also kind of just having fun with it.

What sense does it make with Loverboy? It's an outdated gimmick that was proven to be far less effective than a regular six-shot revolver. I read the comments someone left on minidoom 2 and thought to myself 'no way this can be bad, the spritework looks amazing', so I downloaded, made it to one of the late hell levels, and went back to pandemonium after finding the 20 runes the game asks for and ooh boy, this game, this fucking game.

it's not even hard in the sense you would expect a platformer to be when they really want it to be hard, this game really does shit the bed. it's one of those games that favors difficulty over fun. everything is designed specifically to fuck you over and make you go 'here's to hoping that shit doesn't happen again' instead of making you feel accomplished. I would leave a more in-depth analysis of it but I just really wanted to vent. there's just so much about it, from the enemy usage and spam, to the arenas, to the absence of mouselook because that would make the game not shit to play, to the way the weapon wheel works, to how 90% of the game consists of pulling at your ballsack with a wrench. it's like they just wanted to make a game to vent their frustration and they so happened to use Doom's veneer.

there's two ways I can think of that this works

the first way is having the player run a bunch of scripts on server join, which relies on the server trusting the player to not just say "yeah I'm level infinity and have 20000 BFGs." that, and the sheer amount of script calls it'd take to sync things once the data gets sizable, you're bound to either have a script drop, or get kicked for flooding user commands.

the second way is using zandronum's ACS database functions to store stuff there, and either hosting all the zandronum servers on the same machine or using something like NFS to sync the database between machines. while less obviously abusable, this would cause issues for public server hosts like TSPG, who'd have to choose between the zandronum servers using separate DBs (removing the point of the syncing in the first place), or letting them use the same DB (allowing you to spin off a server to do your "level infinity and 20000 BFGs" bullshit).

Nah dude, I spent way too long making sure that didn't happen to the point of writing something to specifically shoot one shot for autoaim angle then using that with some other randomization to shoot a bunch of non-autoaimed shots to make sure it behaved how I wanted. 3.7.2 breaks FPF_NOAUTOAIM, which is why it stopped working. I even made a quick test mode to confirm.

I fear it will eventually become too much of a Gordian knot for Graf to manage.
