I loved this game; it basically did everything right and it's only flaw is being too short. Getting to play as a nameless self-insert working with the major is better than playing as her imho too.

Why is this one 1.1MB and the other one 440K?
The Ghost in the Shell OST is amazing.
I remember reading on an interview that Takkyu Ishino got a call from a Sony rep (Takkyu's band, Denki Groove, is signed to a Sony sublabel, Ki/oon), and they asked him to do the soundtrack for the game. Takkyu asked if he could assemble a group of different techno producers from other countries and Sony gave him the green light. So he called up his buddies from Germany and some other Euro countries and produced the whole soundtrack. The result is possibly the best electronic music soundtrack of any game to this day.
By the way, I wonder why SCEA didn't want to publish this game and gave it to THQ instead. In Japan, GITS is a 1st party published game by Sony.

To be fair it's not very interesting and it takes too many liberties from the source. The sticking on surfaces gimmick wears off pretty quick.
So you are left with some mid-late 90s hardstyle and techno.
OK for fans but I bet normies didn't give a shit in '97.

>it takes too many liberties from the source.
Ironically, this game's cutscenes are the only time the actual manga style was used in animation.
You aren't familiar with Fushikomas because they don't appear in the movie, but they're regulars in the manga.
The sticking on surfaces doesn't wear out because it gives you many different possibilities to evade enemies. IMO the most fun way to play this game is to kind of "speedrun" it, not stopping to kill enemies, just dash forward and try to get to the goal as fast as possible. It can get pretty crazy.
I love the gameplay and physics in this game, actually very original. The Tachikoma level on the PS2/PSP game was shite compared to this.
