>half of the features Nvidia said this card can do it couldn't realistically do like anti-aliasing and proper mipmaps
>tons of fucking cheating going on like the bilinear texture filtering doesn't even look genuine
>hey look we've got this supposedly blazing fast / good triangle setup speed, so why are there so many fucking texture seams?
>image quality looks absolutely terrible with the nastiest dithering and banding ever

I think Nvidia's reputation as lying bastards started here. Did anybody else fall for the RIVA 128 meme?

yes it was shit but your dad could afford only that so be grateful you little shit

They did it all to win. Matrox and even S3 offerings from around that era had far better image quality and ok speed (not counting the S3 S3D cards) but look where that got them. You had to be the fastest.

Quality was still miles ahead of the Rage Pro

The Riva TNT (in the form of a Diamond Viper V550) was my first 3D accelerator. It wasn't quite a Voodoo 2, but at least it was cheap.

I can't remember about that particular card, but I jumped on the 3D accelerator meme train(for games, there was NO way I'd playing games on my $4k workstation graphics card) in 1995 and got one of the first S3 Virge cards. It was a graphics decelerator so to speak and it almost made me quit PC gaming at the time. Luckily I found some better offering from Matrox shortly after.

kek. That massive spike on Turok alone.

Sure the speed was good, but why you would actually want to PLAY on a Riva 128? The image quality will give you eye cancer. Voodoo had the speed and it also managed to look good at the same time.

To Nvidia’s credit they mostly fixed image quality on TNT (though instead of cheating on bilinear, they cheated on trilinear instead), but they massively lied about the clockspeeds. It had to be underclocked before launch because the TNT1 chip was a literal housefire waiting to happen.

Knowing ATI, this was probably caused by shitty drivers that never worked properly rather than bad nasty hardware. One of the biggest ironies back then was ATi probably built the most technically advanced cards year after year and could never show for it due to dogshit drivers until they finally got their shit together for the Radeon 9700 Pro which BTFO Nvidia like it had never had and never has since been.

They said it was explosively fast.
