Name 1 (one) game that wouldn't work with this configuration.

That's a twin stick shooter, the controls are fine. You move with the left stick and aim with the right one...

Dual stick is the optimum control scheme for run 'n' guns, you putz. So many games fucked this up by having one joystick for run and a button or two for guns and grenades, meaning you either have to dodge enemy fire or kill bad guys, but never both at once. I don't know how this was considered an exotic control scheme for the genre but blindfiring in all directions while trying to line up a shot wasn't.

Goldentee golf. Really any game that needs analog movement recording.

I actually read that blogpost. Pretty interesting, though I bet the author is a cuck.
He just went on and on about how amazing all those marks and cigarette marks are on the cab. How it shows the history and a reminder of how many people have used it.
I wanted to come back to his website to read some other blogposts but they seemed boring - one of those things where you open it in a new tab only to wait long enough until you dont give a shit about it anymore and close it after a few months.

It hurts going back to stuff like Shock Troopers, this is one case where newer games get it right more often

Keyboard + mouse comes pretty close, though. Shame it hasn't been used more often for run 'n' guns.

Not retro, but BUTCHER is one of my favorite games of all time, and the M+KB controls plays a pretty big part. It keeps the simplicity of a run'n'gun but with the precise control of a FPS to make a really exciting feeling game. Obviously, it has Abuse to thank, given how much it ripped that off.

I hate this nu-pixel indie art style. Old games never tried to look this shitty.

Same. On CRTs back in the day shit was not that blocky. It's such an obnoxious trend. The best indie game I've played recently with a classic feel was easily Hollow Night. Perfect modern metroidvania where everything looks hand drawn and gorgeous. Doesn't look like fetishized NES blocks.

But it's not fair that player 1 has to die easier

Lol. He's exactly like I imagined. But seriously, it's good that he's self aware. I might even try the game out since gameplay trumps aesthetics for me.

Arcade trackball golf games are shit since the trackball never moves in the direction you want it to go. You flick it one way and it automatically moves a different direction. The three button press standard is enough for golf.

To those unaware. Eugene Jarvis (Robotron 2084/Smash TV) along with Housemarque made another great twin stick shooter called Nex Machina in 2017. It's fucking great and Jarvis' masterpiece.

yeah it really is great, unfortunate that his 90s games have such a sadistic difficulty

I can agree that if you like twin stick games, check out Nex Machina. I can't remember the last time a game gave me such an adrenaline rush.
