Confess.

I prefer Majora's Mask to Ocarina of Time, but OoT has the better 3D remake and they both equally have a god-tier soundtrack.
Kirby is the best Nintendo franchise.
I love Castlevania, but I don't get why people shit on Ayami Kojima's art on this board. To me, her paintings would be something Rembrandt would be jealous of.
People who say that Melee is the best smash game are blinded by nostalgia. God-tier soundtrack though.
Everyone has their right on their own opinion, but they should always respect other people's opinion and never treat their opinion as the only right one.

I started gaming using an emulator in grade school, and spammed save-and-reload frequently to avoid any kind of damage. One day, the "reload save" button on my parents' keyboard broke. They weren't angry, but it was only then I realized the error of my ways. There are dozens of classic games I've still never beaten without save spamming, even if I've seen the ending.

I also once dunked a disc in water in an attempt to get it working again, ruining the disc, however, that particular game was Bubsy 3D, so it was an unintentional service to humanity that I was too young and stupid to comprehend.

I used to come here because I thought this would be a place where we could have interesting discussions about older games that you couldn't easily have on other forums. I know better now. For all it's bluster about having taste the /vr/ userbase overwhelmingly supports joke threads, meme threads, bait threads, meta threads, and a few limp attempts to "discuss" the same handful of popular titles you would see on any thread on Reddit or any other message board. More interesting and less exposed titles like "Star Cruiser" or "Atic Atac"might get name dropped in a recommendation thread if you are lucky, but on the whole we are much happier pretending to be outraged over Nintendo Power saying you can beat the piano in Big Boo's Haunt than we are discussing how overpowered the Outsiders' military planet defenses in 3D Starstrike 2 are. Most of this board is really only casually interested in retro games.

While I believe the pick-up-and-playability of /vr/ games give them a natural leg up over later games when being revisited, nostalgia undoubtedly plays a major factor in people loving a lot of them here.

Panzer Dragoon is okay, but fans just need to admit they like it for it's atmosphere, music, aesthetics, etc. over actual gameplay where it's fine but not outstanding.

Kirby is and always has been boring shit.

Sonic 3 is pretty cool, S&K was alright, Sonic 3&K is a longer pretty alright game.

Super Metroid sounds too muffled and really demonstrates how not to use the snes' sound chip.

Dark Savior is shit, who cares about it's recycled ACTUALLY IN PURGATORY TEH HOLE THYME plot when the game is a chore to play?

The snes' higher color pallet makes most of the games look muddied and ugly to me.

Bubsy is a passable game, not great but certainly not deserving of all it's meme hate.

I absolutely do not care for Crash, Tomb Raider, or Twisted Metal which is a big reason why I didn't get a PlayStation until late into it's lifespan.

I really believe we should allow at least handhelds released up to 2004 here. There's a ton of discussion to be had while keeping things technologically gimped enough for /vr/'s enjoyment, and while the PSP is pushing it there's no denying how much it relied on /vr/ remakes, ports, and it's homebrew/emulation scene during it's life.

And there's nothing wrong with that, it's essentially the same as speed running with the ceiling being pushed by unending dedication to an almost unfathomable extent.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14wqBA5Q1yc

I DO have a problem when 1cc obsessed guys, especially from /shmup/, act all uppity about their preferred playing style/genres and go on about jarpigs/anti-skill bogeymen despite their own interests being on the lower rungs of the real skill ladder which frankly would put them well below modern (competitive) shooters. I've even seen some from that obsessive group try to hassle people for enjoying shmups but NOT playing for their personal bests or 1ccing it, it's pitiful and cancerous on an already very slow and underpopulated board. People from that lot just need to remember that 1ccing isn't skill based, it's repetition based, and the proof is in the save states.

>> No.5296276

>>5296259
What baffles me is how you think 1CC is this unreasonable or autistic when most clears are quite easy, and even if some are indeed quite hard you don't have to go for those games if you don't want to. You can't compare that to speedrunning, hell the original Super Mario Bros demands 1CC play from the player (it sends you back to the title screen when you run out of lives). You're thinking of WR-level scoring which can indeed be comparable to speedrunning in dedication and stuff, but this is not what's being discussed nor suggested at all, just mere simple clears.
Clears do require skill, the fact that you need some practice not only proves this, but doesn't dismiss the end result. Would be like saying that any activity that requires practice isn't skillful, that's just silly. Perhaps they don't require tremendous skill but it's enough for many to stay engaged, it's a game and leisure after all.
