Would someone really get banned if he posted a link to his stream?
I think we could have a fun time playing retro games together.

I think so because it counts as Advertising.
Although I imagine if there's a thread here about livestreaming it wouldn't be too much of a problem.
I guess it would depend on the thread and board.

>> No.518718

It is advertising. Come on bro, we all know how to look up games we want to watch.

I've never seen that image before. They are both dead in a heartbeat.

What if someone didn't really know that they wanted to watch someone play Wizardry VI all night? It's not like most of the games discussed on this board have people streaming them every day, and I sure as hell aren't going to check the Twitch game list every hour some some obscure shit.

>> No.519193

Really, how is streaming different from that guy that makes the Let's Play X-com threads with youtube videos and up to date screen shots?

>> No.519341

I see streams pretty regularly around /co/, /tv/, /x/, etc.

I doubt it's something that gets reported often, as long as the OP doesn't obnoxiously keep the thread bumped on the first page during the entire stream.

>>519341
Janitors DO delete them here though.

Sage for meta.

>streams of retro video-games are banned on /vr/

What.

Let's play threads aren't advertising a commercial revenue stream. They're playing a game with other people. That's the main objective behind that. Linking to youtube of something relevant is okay, linking to youtube of your let's play is not.

>> No.521369

Posting your stream is one thing.

But in the past, people posting their stream always instantly became shitposting. See: Vinehouse, vidyavidya, etc, I can't really remember, but they just got people watching their stream to shitpost as much as possible to get more viewers.

I was actually a part of one of the short-lived streaming sites that was a part of the fad. Every time they wanted to get more viewers I'd say "Just post the link once in an active thread about the game and leave it at that." Instead they'd make a new thread and self-bump with inside jokes like the worst kind of cancer.

That's why posting streams got banned. Because the people doing it were fucking retards.

it makes no sense

i chill in livestream threads in /vp/ ALL the time

theyre a great way to have fun in a slow board

>> No.529772

I remember when let's play threads were regarded as role playing faggotry, and were instantly spammed to death with tropius copypasta.

that's the problem with /v/

I mostly just read /co/, and I see stream threads every now and then. But they do have a tendency to get deleted sooner or later, and I've heard of people getting bans for posting a link to their stream channel. Stream threads are forbidden in the global rules of this site and they're not supposed to be posted on any board. Apparently they're seen as a form of advertising or self-promoting.
From what I've seen, janitors seem to be less delete-happy if the stream is broadcasting some new popular content that's airing live on TV right then and there; a new TV series episode or something.

I think having stream threads forbidden is a pity though, and I wish the rules were revised. Some of the most fun and memorable times I've had with 4chan anons is during streams. Watching crappy movies is particularly entertaining with /co/mrades snarking about the plot in the stream chat.

>>529864
Why not ask in /q/ about that? Or has it been already discussed?

>> No.530734

>>529864
The issue with stream threads is that they're often threads where regulars of the stream/site circle jerk and spam "GET IN HERE" to get to the front page.

Want to link your stream in a relevant thread or create a thread about what you're streaming then posting the link? Okay. Posting an entire thread just to scream "PLAYAN VIDYA GET IN HERE!"? Not okay.
