NES/SNES platformers seem to over-emphasize boss battles. Nearly always there's a boss at the end of the stage, and more often than not it's an annoying one. DOS doesn't have this problem, in fact it seems to have more unique platformers and they also tend to push the envelope further as far as unique gameplay goes. Not that there's not some good titles on consoles, but for the most part they seem less enjoyable to me, generally speaking. May just be my nostalgia speaking but that's how I feel.

It's difficult to compare DOS and SNES platforms games, there's a big difference in styles, I mean, DOS platform games are really eerie and serious, when SNES games look cute and like in a comic book... There are good adventure games and arcades for DOS, but platform games won't please most part of gamers

You have to be joking. DOS wasn't even capable of replicating 8-bit and 16-bit console platformers properly.

Let's be honest with ourselves. It was a shovelware OS for hobbyists.

>> No.5293243

>>5293208
True but at the same time I can't force myself to get into some of the SNES platformers like Megaman X or Castlevania 4, even though they're supposed to be good games. They just feel weird to me. Idk why. They're either too hard, too clunky to control, or have confusing levels. Only SNES platformer I decently enjoyed was Super Mario World and that's probably only because I really liked the NES marios too as I don't find the gameplay particularly groundbreaking. My views are fueled by nostalgia, but like I said for some reason I find it easier to get into DOS platforms even now 20 something years later

Sounds like you just haven't fully adapted to them. Once you get used to the controls you'd probably enjoy them more. Classic Castlevania games are naturally a bit clunky by design, but Mega Man X should be a lot more fun once you're comfortable moving around with dashes and stuff. Confusing levels is a surprising complaint to me because I always thought SNES platformers had more linear, straightforward levels than DOS stuff. I haven't played many of those, but I associate them with more vertical, maze-like levels.

>> No.5293296

>>5293284
Yeah, maybe you're right. By confusing levels I meant I get stuck in them a lot of the time for some reason. But I probably had some NES platformers in mind and not SNES. Like I know some Mega Man levels confused me to such an extent I just stopped playing, Maybe I should give X a try again though, I never did give it a solid chance
