It's funny that Doom 4's art style problems come from some stuff being too overdetailed yet it's Hell that suffered from being too simple.
Probably because of a difference between gameplay elements and level design.
Also, it hit me what went wrong with the plasma rifle: its shape helped to make it more distinct from an assault rifle and the big tube/barrel fits for a weapon that shoots plasma balls bigger than bullets.
It was the BFG's little brother for a reason,

Is it possible to make flashlight mods (ie DarkDoomZ, pkuika, etc) play nice with gore mods such as Nashgore? Because whenever I get blood splats on the walls, when the flashlight shines on them, they go spastic changing colors whenever you move even slightly.

I remade the towers in this map in a way that they don't need 3D floors and suddently got better FPS on it.

I thought that it always had more to do with the open fields themselves, but so many maps out there does those and never gets a performance issue, then i noticed that none had 3D floors in there, so i removed in mine and framerate suddently got better.

There's actually 2 Powerslave games sharing the same name and assets. The DOS version is a pretty solid, straight-forward shooter on the Build engine. The console version is a fully 3D shooter where you gradually gain abilities to access new areas of levels, Metroid-style. For the former you only have DOSBOX, but there's a fan patch that modernizes the controls and fixes some bugs. For the latter, there's Powerslave EX, but mouselook is broken on Windows 10 so you'll still have to use a controller.

I wonder if I should just use the pen tool in SAI, it'll come out pixellated at that 30x24 size anyway instead of going at it pixel by pixel with the binary tool and if going at it color tone by color tone for shading, shifting color tones and highlights is a better idea than going at it on a separate layer with the color black at a very low opacity.

I'm having an issue with cc4-tex.wad and vanilla doom mapping, specifically when I load it as a resource in Doom 2 in Doom format in GZDoombuilder chocolate doom crashes with a "W_CacheLumpNum: ### >= numlumps" error whenever a flat (floor or ceiling) from the cc4-tex.wad is visible. Happens on the map I'm working on, or even a brand new map with just a single room.

I've looked up this error online and I can't find anything to this specific instance, and going in and mucking about with the wad changing FF_START & FF_END to F_START & F_END hasn't changed anything.

At this point I'm just looking to see if anyone else can replicate this, and to confirm that it's something that I'm doing wrong because I assume that if cc4-tex.wad simply didn't work with chocolate doom someone else would have posted about it somewhere on the internet by now, which I can't find.

If anyone has any info or can help or test it and confirm that it's something I'm doing wrong I would greatly appreciate it.

It's a limitation of how the wall sprites work. Models, which are what are used for floors and ceilings when it comes to gore mods, are properly shaded by dynamic lights, as you can see if you use any mods that replace weapons or enemies with 3D models as well. But the wall blood are all sprites, and they start having z-fighting and shading issues when dynamic lights come into play, which is even worse because of how the wall blood sprites in particular are "shaded" compared to the "flat" sprites everything else typically uses because that's how GZDoom handles the wall blood.

Alfonzone is very nicely bite sized, so it's not bad if you're busy.
It's like, two dozen episodes, but they're short episodes, each with their own theme, and it's (mostly) gameplay mod friendly.

Alright, I tried turning off prescaling and it seems to reverse my issue, with horizontal turning being the lower sensitivity. It does seem to be a more clear ratio though with it being half of the vertical.

well I'm looking at the code again and it's weird
in most places, it multiplies horizontal mouse movement by 3 and vertical mouse movement by 2, but in some of the win32 mouse processing code, it multiplies horizontal mouse movement by 4 and does nothing to vertical movement
I'm not sure which code applies when and I don't care to dig into it too much, because that all goes away with m_noprescale on

you might also be feeling the part where the levels are stretched vertically by 20% (to match the 5:6 pixel ratios of vanilla doom without having 5:6 pixels)

anyway here's a mod to make sure that the axes are even, at least before the stretching. just move your mouse slowly and see if the two values end up even.

I've had HD fans come to me being nothing short of obnoxious asshats, acting like I'm committed to supporting it and getting offended when I can't be fucked with supporting it.

For all the dicksucking graf zahl gets for actually doing things, if he was a competant programmer he would jave unfucked the ACS vm/extending decorate instead of making a completely new standard that no one fucking cares about except for gzdoom babies. To add insult to injury, zscript still has shitty documentation and graf's cancerous attitude towards it makes me want to never ever use his special snowflake decorate 2.0

I use gzdoom for modding, but I'm never going to switch to zscript out of principle.

Zscript is powerful but yeah, it still seems unstable and weird. The lack of documentation doesn't help matters either. It might become something worthwhile and dependable later down the road but I'm sticking with decorate and ACS, as old and busted as those can be, there's plenty of documentation and I can make shit work there.
Plus it keeps my work compatible with Zandronum and older versions of GZDoom. The only thing I want more than anything else is anonymous functions.

Not having those for Zandy mods sucks.

Okay so... I just discovered something in Doombuilder. If I create a sector adjacent to a room, I can insert e.g. a picture on a wall as a midtexture, by making the floor and ceiling level at the correct heights, and putting normal wall texture as Upper and Lower.

However, it turns out that it still works even if I delete the extra sector - I just get a linedef that has inexplicable Lower, Middle and Upper textures. I can't adjust the floor/ceiling heights anymore, but I can still change the textures if I want.

Is this trick safe to use? I don't want to break anything.

Can't Graf re-use the particle rendering method to render voxels?
As of now a particle is about 3-4 times more efficient to render than a sprite, since it is much simpler object and the engine makes a few shortcuts for it.
3D models are even less effective than sprites.
Right now a voxel model is converted into a set of cube models.
Would it not be more efficient to convert it into a set of particles instead, since they render almost exactly same way as voxels were rendered by the build engine?
