Got an Nintendo 64 and I have no games for it yet.
Is it worth getting the Everdrive 64 (pic related) or is something lost by playing it this way and I should just buy the games individually? What do you think?

>> No.5260025

Buy each game individually. That way you spend more and increase your assets.

It's worth it. N64 game prices aren't as horribly inflated as others but it adds up buying games separately. In contrast the Everdrive 64 ran me around $130 leafbucks and I have every N64 game on it.

I'm looking at getting the Everdrive 64 3.0. Just wanted to make sure here before I shill out $175 for it.

I bought one a year ago, IMO it's worth it to buy a flash cart for any system you like a lot.

There's only 296 US N64 games and some of them are Glover and Quest 64. make of that what you will

Depends on what games you want to play. If you just want to sample everything then yeah its cost effective.
Also handy to have your saves on an SD card. No soldering batteries. Especially with emulation in the state it's in, it's a good buy.

Just be aware the 5% great rule applies to N64 as well. For every Star Fox 64 or Blast Corps you have 10 Rugrat's in Paris or Xena: Talisman of Fate.

This is one of the most "worth it" everdrives as it plays everything and 64dd. Don't forget to buy expansion ram if you don't have it already. This costs what 2-3 good games costs but you get them all. Only a vidiot wouldn't get one.

I don't understand, mine didn't want me playing Vice City when it came out but I still did, getting away with shit behind your parent's back is one of the joys of being a kid.
Anyway try a couple games out in an emulator to see what you want to get the Everdrive for, if you haven't already. I suggest giving Star Wars Pod Racer a try, and any Mario Party if you have multiple controllers and friends. Battletanx is great too, solo or multiplayer. Vigilante 8 is good too, think Twisted Metal with disco. If you like Tetris get Pokemon Puzzle League, it's just Tetris Attack with pkmn skin but it plays great. Lego Racers is a pretty good Kart clone that lets you build cars, and the stacking-items gimmick makes for some fun gameplay too.

Open your web browser, navigate to a search engine, enter the words "Nintendo 64 roms", press enter, begin looking at results. You should now have roms.

I have never heard of that rule, sounds ridiculous. I've heard of the "90% of everything is crap" rule, however that should in no way be taken very seriously when comparing consoles.

When you load up your Everdrive 64 card you'll see hit after hit after hit. Games you never see talked about: Rogue Squadron, Mario Tennis, Mario Golf. Even those games you gave as examples of bad games aren't bad at all. The idea that "N64 had a fair share of crap as well!" is a meme invented by Sony fanboys. Yes there was Carmageddon 64 but on any rom list of N64 games you will see so many good games.

Everdrive 2.5 or 3.0 is one of the best ways to spend a few dollars and have access to all of your games without changing a cartridge.

>>5260032
>Wow. Where did you get your ROMs
Early in the millennium.

The best way to get them now is probably via torrents. Sure, that comes with its own headaches, but is well worth it.

>>5261791
>The main thing lost is a lot of revenue for resellers.
Fuck them people. They can die with their collections of plastic and PCBs for all I care. They acted like their shit didn't stink for nearly 20 years while they drove the prices up and circle jerked each other about their boxed copy of Majora's Mask. Their sun has set, and they are largely irrelevant outside of their circles. I have suggested Everdrive to a few people, and by word of mouth have indirectly lead to 9 people owning them that never even knew about it before me. I helped take 9 people out of the reseller's market.

FeelsGoodMan.jpg

Everdrive 2.5 is what most people would need. 3.0 if you must have the few games that ONLY work with that unit.

Why would I need to "keep up with times" when I have every rom for every system I need? Instead of us having to imagine you face-palming and letting out an emo sigh, please explain what an archive is, and why it is better than a torrent. I really don't understand, which probably means that there is others here that don't either.

I was a bit drunk when I wrote that (happy new year) but you should still get a newer set, or check the games' checksums. You wouldn't be always able to tell if a dump was bad, and there are probably many ROMs missing from your set. Just get a new set from the eye.

>> No.5263561

>>5262793
>You wouldn't be always able to tell if a dump was bad, and there are probably many ROMs missing from your set.
My "Set" consists of 367 individual files. Most are NTSC-U, but there certainly are some PAL & NTSC-J games.

And yes, I tested each and every one, both on an Everdrive 64, and an ED64 Plus. The only reason I tested all of them is because I owned the chinkshit knockoff first, and some games certainly did not work. Some just wouldn't run, and others had issues with the sound. I sold it, got a Everdrive 64 v2.5 and tested each and ever game again over the course of a weekend, and found 100% compatibility. I do appreciate your information, but I did check and literally double check every rom in my collection.

Back in the late 90s/early 2000s I was living on my own without any woman in my life. I had time to find ways to download every game I ever wanted that was available. Thankfully CD and later DVD burns survived where computers I own did not. I just tossed out my SNES & Nes Rom's CD-r that was created in 1999. I now have a much better backup system for everything. If I lose data now, we are well past the point of no return for society.

I don't see a reason for an everdrive, Turok 1 and 2 are on Steam, Goldeneye too, Doom 64 is better on PC, and the only other games I want to play are Banjo, Perfect Dark, and Conker, which are not enough to justify an everdrive.

If you get an ED64, you have a way of playing out-of-region games without having to worry about modifying the dust cover or getting an adaptor.

Also, it pays for itself after just 5 games you want that go for $40 and up on eBay.

I think it's a 1.0 clone. It runs the 1.28 firmware. You should be able to get it cheaper than 100, mine was 70 from ebay with free shipping. Haven't had any problems with it yet.
