WHAT WERE THEY THINKING

Just because you have the option to cheat a game, doesn't mean you have to.

Super Mario Bros. 3 did it better; everything looks the same in "World", whereas there's lot of variety in locales in 3.

>cheat
how is it cheating its literally a powerup put in by the devs, they also allowed it to be used infinitely

Dominant strategy.

>A lot of the levels in the game happen in closed places like caverns or fortresses.
>Many levels in the game require you to solve a puzzle or find a secret exit to really advance
And even though, yes, the cape is definitely broken, it's fun as fuck and if you really follow "dominant strategy" you'll want to abuse the tricks you can do with the cape like i-frames and stuff. But that requires actual effort.
I remember as a kid, the first time I played SMW I didn't get the cape controls right. It required a certain timing, while on SMB3 I was used to just mash the button to fly.
By the time I mastered the cape (to the point of being able to reach Soda Lake without sacrificing Yoshi) I was already struggling with Tubular, where the cape wasn't helpful.

Quit arguing semantics, you prick. You know what I meant.

mario world is a lowkey sandbox game. explicit challenge isn't as prioritized

It's a toy, let's let people have the kind of fun they want with it.

They even let you just not even play the game at all, those idiots

Yeah, there's a reason people call World an adventure game in platformer clothing.

Do people really say Tubular can't be beaten with the cape? Because that's how I did it when I was a kid.

how is it semantics when it's a powerup that's even required to get certain exits. it's not a cheat lol. maybe they just shouldn't have put something in the game that makes like 95% of it trivial.

>> No.5259745

>>5259561
who does that. it's a standard platformer that's very slightly non-linear. it's not even much more non-linear than 3. even the original has warps that allow you to skip entire worlds lol.

>> No.5260493

>>5259706
Probably there's a way to do it by spinning and abusing i-frames, but I admit, I never learned those tricks, and you don't have room to run and fly normally on that level.
So to me, it wasn't possible. I did it the normal way.
Nowadays I have no problem doing it but as a kid it took a while.

there are some hidden exits but it's basically the same thing as the warps in smb1, which are technically also hidden exits

>> No.5260603

you could just as well argue that smb3 is an adventure game becuase you can skip levels, do levels out of order, use the warp whistles to go to whatever world you want, etc

>> No.5260618

it's very easy to get to the end of the levels even without flying. you'll miss some of the secret exits if you fly straight to the end in every level. the fun of the game is in exploration.

>> No.5261938

>>5260493
You can build enough momentum for flying in the starting tubes if you do it right, then after you can't keep flying later in the stage you can just cheese until the end with hit invulnerability. That's the only way I made it when I was a kid.
