>According to the story, a united humanity of the generations following the Great Flood, speaking a single language and migrating from the east, came to the land of Shinar (Hebrew: ????), where they resolved to build a city with a tower "whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth."

>The Sky (known as Sky Land in the International NES revision, and occasionally Sky World in other media) is the fifth world in Super Mario Bros. 3. The Sky has nine levels, three Hammer Bros., two Fortresses, three Toad Houses, three Spade Panels, a Mushroom King's palace, and a special Tower level. There are two parts to the world, "The Ground" and The Sky, connected by the Tower level.

TL;DR Mario climbed the Tower of Babel in SMB3

Also Super Mario Bros. 3 is a seemingly innocuous platformer game. In reality, it's a biting allegory of Man's relationship with God.

World 1 is Grass Land. It's an idyllic, easygoing place in an obvious reference to the biblical Paradise.

World 2 is Desert Land. It represents the original sin and exile from paradise, and the hardships endured by man.

World 3 is Water Land, an obvious allegory to the great biblical flood that purged the wicked but allowed the faithful to survive.

World 4 is Giant Land. Mario must face and defeat his giant adversaries, in a vein similar to story of David and Goliath.

World 5 is Sky Land. The first half is actually on earth, and after climbing a tower, Mario finds himself on the cloud tops, where he must make his way to the castle and the King of the heavens (God?). There is debate as to what this world is exactly representing. The duality of heaven and earth might represent how the spiritual awakening of man allows him to live together with God in daily life, as the connecting tower can be climbed up or down at any time. The earthen half could also be a mirrored Israel, and the tower Jerusalem, or the Tower of Babel.

World 6 is Ice Land. It is the site of Ragnarök, or Götterdämmerung; the Twilight of the Gods. It represents the "death" of God as Nietzche put it: man has grew proud and become "enlightened", and no longer bases his morality on the divine, whether for ill or good.

World 7 is Pipe Land, and it represents our world. It consists of six main landmasses, and a large, uninhabited "continent" at the bottom. This land is fragmented, but interconnected, as you can get everywhere with the various bridges and pipes. It represents the first stage of Man separated from God, the building of his empire.

World 8 is Dark Land. It's a gloomy, hellish realm of dark skies and filthy waters. Tanks roll over the ruined countryside and nuclear ash blots out the sun. It represents the downfall of Man separated from God.

Before being driven mad by time travel, the fighter, finds time to rest near a tranquil and mighty oak. He doesn't remember who he was before the rift and he doesn't care because he's gained so much strength from the rift and this wondrous new place. Yet something about this lake troubles him, there's something slowly transforming his playful nature from within. One day as he strikes the tree it occurred to him that he was back to where he was going before he started. Heh, he laughed. Time travel always hooked around, he remembered. What he couldn't shake or forget, though, was what his dad told before he left:

>Boy, there's power beyond your imagination in the rift, but its price is destruction--the place fosters your true soul. It is truly for saints.

He remembered how he laughed at his father; how could he be so hypocritical since it was he that discovered the rift and its properties? Its surreal promises as well. Fine, he again pushed back his demons and sang a breathy tune he was keen to hum: "Chi chi chi---ah ah ah ah". His mantra song of power, so innocent, but why did he fear his release on the tree? Gather strength and then release! Is there something he forgot?

The hieroglyph texture in 64 is interesting.

Mario Land is about ancient aliens who fostered early earth civilizations. It shows up everywhere in Japanese pop culture. Usually Egypt and Japanese Jomon period show up a lot but Eastern Islands and others too. Think Stargate. It was popular in the 70's hence older game devs put it in stuff. That's why you fight an alien obviously.

I would bet $100 that this was added to the game simply to add character to the world and give the player the impression that there are fearsome creatures in Hyrule.

Instead we get nintoddler autists discussing the "lore" behind it lol.

He also could teleport in Mario 64. I know his kids had magic in Mario 3, but that was because they stole scepters from the kings.

I'd like to see some rudimentary magic and the ability to throw hammers come back into Bowser's repertoire, just so he can be a little more than your standard, rank-and-file, flame and wrath monster boss. I always thought a hammer throw should be one of Bowser's special moves in Smash Bros, instead of the ones they made up.

>immediately gets herself captured again, apparently willingly

The original Super Mario Bros was a scam. Who is the "we" presenting the new quest? Toadstool is not using the royal we. She means herself and Bowser, they were working together the whole time. When she is "rescued", she immediately presents this new, harder quest which will hopefully take Mario longer to complete, so she can spend more time with Bowser.
