If you're looking for home ports, both R-Type and R-Type II are best experienced on the Amiga. Hands down THE definitive versions.

The C64 port was done by the great Manfred Trentz, unfortunately it's missing a bunch of stuff because they made him finish it in 7 weeks.

I like it ok, although it's not really anything special as re-releases go. I prefer the original graphics and music, which are also included. I also need emulator save states to practice this game without wanting to hang myself, which Dimensions lacks.

Wait I think I figured it out.
SEGA system refers to any SEGA console in general.
SEGA Master System is one of them.
But if you were playing it on say a Mega Drive, it's telling you to read to YOUR SEGA system manual, not an specific console's one.
They probably did this in case they wanted to rename the MS to something else at later time.

R-Type final bosses are always boring shit anyway, not missing anything if you get the entire strategy spoiled in a video. Now if you actually saw a detailed breakdown of the strategy for the final level of both loops maybe you'd have a point

Wasn't this even done by the original developers of 2 first R-Types? If so, this is pretty much a real R-Type game.

It's got even shitload of references to R-Types
>looks of the ship
>pod mechanics
>pod's blue laser weapon is directly from R-Type games
>first stage's scenery and structure is very similar to R-Type 1
>you fight green mech miniboss at first stage like in all R-Types
>first boss looks very similar to Subtom, R-Type II first boss
>second stage is the organic water stage
>third stage is the giant ship stage
>R-Type boss Gomander/Cyst appears as a boss in second to last stage
