What are the best /vr/ SRW games?

Alpha 1, Alpha Gaiden, Complete Box, F/Final. For CB and F/Final, look up "SRW animation skip codes".

Now get out.

Masou Kishin, F & F Final, Alpha & Allpha Gaiden.

Does /vr/ have a starter kit or infographic of some kind? I know this exists*, but I am willing to bet you have something cleaner, sorted by genre. Am I wrong?
I don't want to make a new thread to ask this.

The best ones are sadly not retro.

The next best ones in term of plot have become a little unplayable by today's standards and QoL (general speed of the game, menus, battle skipping, etc)

IMO the best ones are F Final, all Masou Kishin games, Alpha 3 and Gaiden, W, UX, BX and so far, V is becoming a personal favorite (a lot of people hated it tho but current SRW fans hate everything)

The translated games are:
SRW 1 (Game Boy)
SRW 2 (NES)
SRW 3 (SNES)
SRW EX (SNES)
SRW Alpha Gaiden (PSX)
Masoukishin: Lord of Elemental (SNES)
SRW AP (PSP)
SRW Original Generation 1 & 2 (GBA)
SRW Moon Dwellers (PS3)
SRW V, X (PS3/4)

The last 4 games have official translations. The rest are fan-translated.

About series, just don't bother. Grab a game and play it. There's some plot, but it doesn't really matter in the long run. The only mecha show I had watched back then was Evangelion, and I played SRW 3 (no Evangelion). I didn't even know what the fuck Gundam was.

The Playstation ones are very playable. You can speed up loadings with emulation too and it's the best way to play the original trilogy.

Which one has the most classic robots? Eva, Mazinger, Getter, Giant Robo, etc.

Like all of them.
The Eva units started appearing since F.

Really? I admit I don't know much about the series. All the ones I've seen brought over seem to be original robots or gundam. PSP/DS if I recall.

Eva isn't classic robots man, you'll get killed if you say that on /m/.
If you want classic series, then it's the original trilogy with Gundam, Mazinger, Getter, but also old shows like Raideen, Combattler , Dunbine,..
If you want something with a broader appeal then it's the Alpha series with Evangelion, Gunbuster, Giant Robo, Macross,...

>>5246408
I mean all the retro ones. They all have Mazinger, Getter, etc.
>>5246409
>you'll get killed if you say that on /m/.
I got to /m/ for srw threads and sometimes kaiju threads but these guys are all zoomers LARPing as hardcore mecha fans, don't take them seriously. They mostly hate Eva because it's popular, it's sad.

I don't go on /m/ that much anymore, but there was some good posters like Gunlord and others who have been on 4chan for a long time. But yeah, you can't discuss Eva or TTGL there, it's pretty shameful. It's pretty much lke /vr/, a small board where one or two idiots can ruin everyone's comfy fun with their shitposting.

I'll give my usual recommendations for someone who wants to start getting into SRW.
1. Start with a modern game, since they're usually easier and more flexible. They also have more recent shows if you're not into old anime.
2. Start with something translated, unless you already speak Japanese.
Something like SRW J is perfect since it's pretty easy, translated, and playable on a toaster with GBA emulation.
Then, once you're acquainted with the systems and menus, you can start on the /vr/ games.

By the way, "modern" (= not retro) doesn't always mean easy. A game like W is a cakewalk, while A/A Portable will kick your ass, so beware.

They're all garbage fan service games made quickly and cynically.
Another one of these piece of trash games got translated this week. What a monumental waste of time. There are an endless supply of them too.

Nothing really wrong with fan service.
And I don't think they're made quickly and cynically. The fanservice translates to in-game scenarios, unit stats, etc.
I think a lot of thought (and love) is put into these games, as well as fans translating them. You're just bitter.

Are there any SRW games that are more focused on tactics over fanservice? And maybe not too 'super' robot?
>>5246470
By 'kick your ass' do you mean there's a lot of player control that can lead to success or failure, or is it just RNG and surprise reinforcements that leads to resets regardless of player skill?

>Are there any SRW games that are more focused on tactics over fanservice?
The first games are pretty hard, so you need to take it slowly, to use terrain advantages. You've don't have a lot of HP and SP so you can''t make too much mistakes, and some units are legitimately shit-tier (which sucks since I love stuff like upgrading Bernie's Zaku into a death machine).
Modern games are pretty simple if you know what you're doing (lke looking out for reinforcements, ot staying out of range of those fucking map attacks).
>By 'kick your ass' do you mean there's a lot of player control that can lead to success or failure, or is it just RNG and surprise reinforcements that leads to resets regardless of player skill?
The thing with A Portable is that they "Fire Emblemed"it. In most of the games, the RNG is calculated before each battle, so if you fuck up massively, you can still save-scum to save your ass (it won't help you all the time though). In this one, the RNG is fixed for the entire turn. If you make a bad decision, you'll have to live (or die) with it. It wouldn't be too much of a problem in a normal game, but here your accuracy is incredibly low. It's a massive pain in the ass to play and even if you manage to make it, then you can take the wrong route with a boss that destroys most first-time players. Charming stuff.

By the way, if you like VOTOMS you can try some recent games. Chirico is overpowered as fuck.

Maso K in particular and the WinkySoft era in general are probably the most thought intensive on using tactics/positioning/wise spending to survive. The GBA games are to a lesser extent, namely OG/A/R/D, especially those that feature Tsume Robo/Puzzle bits.

>> No.5247254

I've never dug very deep to look for them, but I never see ISOs of the PS2 titles, specifically Alpha 2 and 3. Anyone know anything about this? Am I too late? Are they just gone now?

sage for non-/vr/.

Probably Alpha Gaiden or NEO

>By 'kick your ass' do you mean there's a lot of player control that can lead to success or failure, or is it just RNG and surprise reinforcements that leads to resets regardless of player skill?
The latter, also taking into account bad balancing and the fact that SRW does not explain any of their mechanics and you have to go read an FAQ to actually know what you're doing, but it mostly only applies to the very earlier pre-PSX era games.

Modern SRW has been neutered so badly it's pretty braindead.
