This game is not for you. You don't seem to enjoy exploration as much as platforming and 2D action. I recommend Castlevania Chronicles instead.

>> No.5239756

>>5239742
I'm all in for exploration. Even if this is my first Castlevania, i'm a huge Metroid fanboy.

Its just.. How could they straigh up drop the endboss casually during midgame as if it was nothing? Would be better gamedesign if there was more buildup and actual reason to go explore, wouldn't it? Hell, put a lock in front of richters door and let me find the key if any.

I just want to play more, the creditroll should be the climax.

>> No.5239762

>>5239756
You're supposed to figure out that he's not really the endboss. There are clues in the game that help you unlock the true end boss and a ton of more map to explore.

Whaat. Okay, would be great if the game would tell me that in some way. Maybe by.. Just not having a creditroll after beating richter?!

Its the second time this cryptic gamedesign baffles me. Pic related was the only time i had to lookup a walkthrough. Who in his right mind thought it would be a good idea to let the player figure out on their own to wait a whole minute on a random intersection floor to make progress? God damn.

I love this game, i really do. Metroidvania with rpg elements is a really cool mixup, and i really enjoy the rpg elements absolutely. But damn, some gamedesign choices are just horrible.

>>5239756
He's not the real boss. I do agree that maybe they could have made it slightly more obvious, especially to players new to the series but it's really not that hard to figure out unless you're braindead enough to just beat the game ASAP and not explore the castle.

Weak opinion dude. Why do you want to be spoonfed? Just try shit out. You'd hate Zelda 1 and 2 for sure

>> No.5239790

>>5239780
Zelda 1 and 2 are super shitty games bra.

Getting spoonfed and a game giving hints to get the narrative going are two different things.

I'e heard somewhere that some older Castlevania Game, maybe Simon's Quest but not sure, had this one part where you had to stand with your back at some random corner in the game, ducking, with a special item in your hand and wait for 2 minutes or something like that.

Thats complete bullshit man. There is simply no way to figure shit like that out on your own.

>> No.5239797

The fault is on you, the game is not meant to be rushed up, there is a lot of quality content in it, so relax and look for every square in the map, also it's way bigger.

With SOTN absolutely, it's easy. For Zelda 1 and 2, back then word of mouth on the school bus was a good way to figure a new thing out, which kept me motivated.

Story goes that Igarashi saw a bunch of old Castlevania games in a bargain bin because once people had completed them they would just trade them in for a different game. The aim with SOTN was to create a game that people would have to keep coming back to, hence the sometimes cryptic design (actually more inspired by the early Zelda games than Metroid - when looked at in that way the design makes a bit more sense.)

Just keep exploring and you'll find a shit-ton of secrets. The only problem I have is that the rpg system just makes your character too powerful, so while the level design is cryptic and mysterious the game gets easier the more you play and some boss fights are a fucking joke (on the other hand though, if you sequence break and get to certain bosses earlier than you should they can still pose a good challenge)

You might want to try Aria of Sorrow next. It's like Symphony only with tighter level and gameplay design. That being said with Symphony they literally threw everything at the wall to see what stuck so no other game in the series has the same mad, epic, occasionally flawed vision as it.

One more thing I forgot to mention OP. You're having the exact experience most kids had back in 1997.

"I beat the game? That feels wrong somehow."
>Keep exploring because it's the only game your mom will buy you for a month
>Discover multiple different routes, bosses and story beats
>Get confused as fuck as to why this is post-game content
>Finally figure out what you have to do and discover that after Richter an entire extra thrid of the game opens up
>Get mind blown

its a metroidvania game. its name is part of the genre. its free roam side scroller. in that you can make it to the last boss typically kind of fast if you go straight to them

the original metroid or super metroid same thing. there is a speed route that you can do in like 30 minutes

Look, anon. Retro games are hard, yes. But the ones that need you to figure them out? They're subtle. They're comfy.

Stop playing retro games on your phone on the toilet at work, with the sound off, as if you have a hundred other games to choose from. That's not the environment SOTN was created in.

Metroidvanias are PERFECT for playing on handhelds (not phones, though, no real game is made for phones). I love playing SOTN while on the shitter or lying in bed on the PSP (best version).
But yeah sound is always enabled.
Sometimes I also connect my PC speakers to the PSP, or just the headphones.

Anyway, SOTN easy as SHIT. OP is a casual.
