This is actually surprisingly mediocre when compared to Valken and Gun Hazard. Piss poor level design and janky controls.

Why is it so highly regarded?

The level design is fine for the most part, there's nothing wrong with the controls, really. It sounds like you're just making up bullshit to shit on a game because you liked the Assault Suit games, and you can only like one series because of reasons.
As to your question, it's highly regarded because it's a good game, offers some variety in terms of mechs and exploration that the assault suit series doesn't and it never really got a sequel. Also the music is great.

That's a very good question. It's nowhere near as good as Assault Suit Valken. It really doesn't have the controls or level design to be anywhere near as good as it.
>>5225491
He's not making up bullshit, he's absolutely right. It is mediocre compared to those other games. There's nothing shocking about that statement.

I agree I never liked it. The repeating music is also very annoying and out od place

It's not highly regarded. It's a game for people that were starving for further games like Target Earth and Cybernator and were willing to play anything. Many people didn't know about the import scene back then, so superior games like Leynos 2 and Gunhazard would be unknown in the West for years. Valken is a true classic and Gunhazard is the pinnacle.

Agreed on all. Also, I think that the now defunct Lucas Arts, having a hand in it, attracted a tiny but vocal group of advocates that will extoll the virtues of a particular game no matter how mediocre it is.

this
vs mode was very fun, but the campaign was lacking compared to the others.

Metal Warriors is getting completely blown out here, champ. It also never got a sequel and is mostly forgotten. Stay mad.

Mission structure and level design. There is absolutely no tension.
Gameplay decisions in Valkan effect the ending.
Jank controls
A subpar soundtrack that annoys with it's repetition .
Putrid mecha designs sans the boxart.
Saturday morning cartoon story that is subpar Gundam.
Terrible pacing.

It's still a cool game if you like videogames and mechs.

Is that the one with a versus mode?

>get out of mech before it explodes
>friend falls in lava by himself
>just watch as he dies
>accidentally fall into the lava and die after the match is over
I almost pissed myself laughing.

any games like this for Genesis?

I've never seen it praised as being some amazing game. I've had my copy since back in the SNES days and it was an alright game with a cool multiplayer mode but it was never anything mind blowing or ground breaking. Nowadays I really only ever see it brought up for it's insane price tag never about the actual gameplay itself.

I'm with you on most of your points. Metal Warriors is a great game, but Cybernator/ASV has a spectacular soundtrack that Metal Warriors can't match.

awful fucking game

>> No.5225976

Haha holy fuck. When I was like 7 my best friend had this game. A pirated copy he bought in Paraguay. I'm Brazilian.

I went to the beach with my cousins at their fancy-ass three-story beach house and took the game with me. We played it a lot in versus mode. So fucking fun. Flying these big robots around and when they got low on health leaving them behind and flying around as this mosquito-sized little vulnerable fella until you foundd another robot. So fun.

Seriously the funnest thing about MW is how you can switch robots, and the feeling of vulnerability when you're just this lil guy on a jetpack flying around while there's these huge robots trying to kill you.

Just playing the game when we were still smelling like sun lotion and high on vitamin d from the sun exposure... sweet memories man.

That's all anyone fucking does on this board, ever. Empty little people need to feel important so they compulsively act contrarian and shit on good games to seem like they've discovered some elite little secret no one else realized when in reality they're just desperate for attention.

>> No.5228630

It's not actually related to that series. It's just a rip-off that got published by the company whose game it was ripping off.

Metal Warriors is excactly the kind of mediocre game i'd expect when Americans try to make a japanese mech game using the Zombies ate my neighbours engine.

>> No.5230346

Loosely OT, if there's any Assault Suit Valken fan here:
- How does the post credits secret cutscene (supposedly tied the game to Leynos) transcribe or translate to?
- Anywhere where to download the japanese strategy guide with the extended backstory?

>> No.5230350

>>5230346
(asking because the fan translation is so buggy it broke the former)

By the by, the suicide scene is still in the english rom. You can access it with cheats. It seems like Konami tried at first removing just the line where the president points out the gun to his head, then the gun sound effect, then script leading to the room itself.
