Old laptops are great for retro emulation, but the CRT hurts my eyes. I heard it's a matter of pixel refreshment, but I tried jacking up the FPS to no avail.
Is there any hope?

I'm not wearing shades, no.

This waste of a thread will stay up yet anything concerning GBA gets deleted.

Think about that for a second.

I wear plus lenses (reading glasses) when I'm on my computer, for print-pushing. TVs usually don't hurt my eyes too bad, even CRTs.

What's most important is use your devices from far enough back and to take breaks.

I'm an oldish fart and the light from CRTs is one of the reasons I never liked them.

>> No.5222648

Old laptop displays have severe issues with ghosting and blurry movement, you're probably better off connecting an external monitor

>> No.5223212

There is now a whole generation of zoomers whose eyes can't handle the superior contrast of CRTs because they're so used to the shitty contrast with grey blacks and weak whites of modern LCD's.
We truly are in the end times.

Read over OP's post again, he clearly meant 90's laptop displays and just called them by the wrong name

>> No.5223243

The actually made laptops with crts inside? Either way, I'm sure eye strain is caused more by the ambient lighting than anything. Make sure the environment around you is well-lit. Ideally you want a bright light just behind the monitor or slightly on the side

Oh shit, I had one of those. 700mhz P3, 512mb of ram, 20gb hdd, and a 3d graphics card by someone or other. That thing was an absolute beast of a Win98 machine.
Still boots too, though it's in shitty shape.

I help run a game convention. We have about 75 CRT's. I personally own 15, including a PCCRT. Almost all of them have grey tinted screens. Even my 11 year old Gateway 1680x1050 had better blacks.

I know I'll get flack for this.
Honestly gunnar glasses or similar eyewear might help. I have to stare at computer monitors all day for my job and I used to get wicked migraines. The gunnar glasses really helped, I might be placeboing myself but idfc it works for me.

>> No.5224965

The issue isn't the frame rate, it's the refresh rate. Admittedly, there isn't too much you can do about that unless you've got the CRT attached to a PC.

Also, laptops don't have CRT monitors. That's impossible.
