I'd say the gameplay is good for the first 10 hours, but quickly becomes repetitive as it becomes more about rote memorization of Persona dialogue trees and requires quite a bit of grind, not to mention that the bosses don't have a lot of unique mechanics.

The story is really good, im my opinion, and the general tone of the game is intersting. I'd say give it a go, but keep in mind that it's a big time investment if you want to finish it.

Basically what the anon I quoted said. For me the P2 IS and EP are the best Persona games in terms of story and characters.
Gameplay can still be fun with combo attacks and trying to see which dialogue option is the best though.
