I posted this on th Zdoom forums earlier but since that site is usually inactive as hell. I might as well bring it up here.

I recall there being a megawad that featured multicolored wolfenstein soldiers in one map, I used the decorate scripts from it a while back. But ever since I accidentally deleted my Doom mods folder when I was cleaning out my computer. I've lost all recounts of what this certain mod was called. Here's a photo of said enemies. Romero has made new maps, hosted/played at tournaments at events, provided alpha/beta resource dumps, and received the first physical Cacoward in recent years, he's definitely the most engaged among them. Carmack's never been the sort to think about the past. Tom probably doesn't have pleasant memories of the time. I haven't heard anything about Adrian since the whole thing with his sister being kidnapped, but he was always one of the more introverted members of the group anyway. Kevin Cloud and Shawn Green are still at id last I'd heard, though I'm not so sure about Shawn. Bobby Prince appeared on Composers Play recently, and Sandy did an AMA on reddit. I don't know what became of American McGee, Donna Jackson, or Dave Taylor.

Romero definitely still gives a shit. He's probably the only one who still cares as much as he does. The others have moved on by and large, some with fond memories they're happy to share, others not so much.

Carmack thrives in an environment where he believes he can innovate, if you wanted to get Carmack to work for you, you would have to provide him with something that would allow him to do that better than VR currently allows him to.

I can't blame him for just doing whatever, he's had it rough.

His sister went missing three or so years ago, amidst there being death threats against him and his family for him calling game journalists dicks.

The police never really seemed to do anything and there doesn't seem to have been any conclusive evidence of what happened to her.

My father died two and a half years ago. The police suspected foul play, but couldn't confirm since his corpse had been missing for four months and was out rotting on a small, hidden trail.

There's not much anyone can go off of besides "X is missing". Police question people close to them, then people with motives, and then all you can hope for is that evidence or a note pops up. It's not fair to blame detectives for not being miracle workers.

Still, I can understand why he's frustrated and when batshit loco for a bit. But at least now he's finding something to do on his shitposting boat, which is good. You need to fill your time with things to do to stay active.

This is just a repeat my map post from the last thread with some additions, if any missed it, or cares, lol. Pic related

Okay, my dudes, it's done. I've been busy, so it took longer than I thought it would, but here's my map. Since the thread is starting to reach critical mass, I'll post it in the next one, too, perhaps updated if there's anything wrong with the level. This map should play well with mods that replace doom textures with PBR Materials, given that the map is lit almost entirely with dynamic lights.

This the third map I released. I posted one on some Daggerfall forum ages ago. And had another one in DUMP 2. I've been playing around with Doom mapping for over 10 years, I'm just bad at finishing and releasing stuff.

>How long from inception to completion did you take to make it?
Form inception to finish about a week. Maybe a couple days more. I'm managing mapping and about two college papers + finals, so that slows me down quite a bit. There were several days in that time period when I couldn't do any work on it at all. A lot of that time went into doing the smaller details, and especially the lighting.

Same anon that posted the map here. For me, one of the quotes that really helped me with art, specifically my /3/ related stuff is “Inspiration is for amateurs — the rest of us just show up and get to work.” ~Chuck Close

Essentially, it advocates for you to learn the discipline to simply sit down and do something regardless of motivation or inspiration to do so. This is how I got my Doom map done in a week, and when I took the quote to heart, my /3/ stuff got better than it was.

Being Diagnosed with ADHD or whatever they're calling it nowadays, it was difficult for me, but rewarding. Like me, I think you'll find that once you start mapping, even if you don't feel like it at the outset, if you stick with it for just 15 minutes, you'll not want to put it down for the next hour.

SHIT YOU PROBABLY DON'T WANT TO KNOW

This is my FIRST level, some of you out there ought to be ashamed
of yourselves (you know who you are!!). I tried to combine my favorite levels
into this one and still throw in some original ideas too. If you're an avid
DOOM player you might recognize some areas. I live in Vermon (Hermon), Maine.
I'm 17 years old and I make levels for a hobby, I do have a life (although
sometimes it doesn't feel like it). I HATE, no make that DESPISE (C)rap,
and listen to nothing but the best HEAVY METAL (METALLICA, OZZY, MEGADETH, etc.)
My name is (yeah right), my alias is Kamakazi or The Denominator, and I plan
on making about three more levels, just so you'll have something pleasant to
the eye to play and not a big pile of shit someone slapped together ;).

Well I guess that's it for now sizzle chest. Rock On, Metallica Rulz,
Seinfeld is awsome, MTV sucks, look for Cringe in the future, and most
importantly take it easy. See ya later fruit cake :).

The E1M8 I'm talking about is a wholly original piece for Quake: Descent into Heresy. It's this ambient track that's pretty oppressive and overall reminiscent of the original Quake OST.

But since we're talking about ost's the Hellcore soundtrack holds a special place in my heart ever since I first played in middle school back in 2007. Especially the first mission. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnlFOdrv0ho&t=

They're not going to because it requires changing how savegames and the map and restart commands are handled, and changing it at the engine level would render those savegames and demos unusable with other ports unless done in a really stupid and roundabout manner. So what's the general consensus on BDLite?

Cause I've tried to have fun with it, the idea of a streamlined BD-like mod isn't a bad one, but it feels very hit and miss with what it's kept, what it's taken out and what it's added in.

I find myself having a better experience of that vein from running Dakka on top of Smooth doom + Smooth Ketchup.

The original arm graphics are of course Kevin Cloud's, as used in the original game, the knives are by Cory Whittle for the original Immoral Conduct, and the new animations are by a Jekyll Grim Payne, for Bad Guns 2.

I reused Grim's frames, cleaned them up a bit, retextured and recolored the grip a bit, and filled in the hole in the blade, to make it a more solid knife. I also made the frames widescreen friendly, so they don't cut off on the sides of some resolutions.

What are some things I can do to make my monsters more challenging/interesting to fight without being lazy and just changing their statistics? I'm making it so the nightmare equivalent in my mod gives certain monsters extra behaviors while also forcing certain player options. I'm looking for evil monster behaviors that are on the cusp of being bullshit. Remember, this is nightmare.

I have came up with a theory for the BFG10K in Eternal and it's this:
>The BFG10K isn't the big cannon on Phobos
>It is, however, being used as a source of power/fuel for the cannon, just to make it powerfull
>Doomguy must go to the area with the cannon, to take the actual BFG, which is then a new weapon in the game
So, either there are three special weapons (Chainsaw, BFG10k replacing 9000, not-crucible) or not and i don't know what to expect for 10k's gameplay.
I just thought of this because if the sword will replace the BFG, then we may not have an actual BFG as part of the gameplay.

>Modifiers/mutators for singleplayer.
>Co-Op survival mode
>Classic PvP
>Classic mode: No glory kills, enemies don't drop items, No cutscenes, no upgrades, classic chainsaw, esc. with items and enemies rearranged and rebalanced to accommodate changes

>Want to play TNT: Evilution but find vanilla doom to be kind of stale, bored of complex doom, not in the mood to go slow with hideous destructor, want something fast
>You know I never played project MSX, isn't that supposed to be really fast?
>MFW Speed is cranked up beyond any reasonable amount
>MFW Movement feels really weightless and awkward, weird burst sprinting isn't helping
>MFW Melee has a weird delay and isn't very intuitive (Or at least the speed and weird acceleration/momentum of movement make it difficult to use properly)
>MFW The actual weapons feel pretty weak
>MFW Constantly running out of ammo because pickups are shit
It's a great idea, I like the new AI, I can tell a lot of love went into this.

That being said, it's like there are some conflicting design decisions here. I think I just have to git gud and actually learn how to play it, but I can't help but feel like its kind of nonesense to have a game that plays this fast with everything else about it. My biggest gripe is probably the ammo, it really doesn't mesh well when the melee is kinda crap and the speed is like graf zahl smoked a fat shard of meth. I can deal with 2 of these three in any configuration, but all at once is kind of daunting.

Oh well, enough bitching about being bad at PMSX. I'm just going to balance it myself. The beauty of doom modding is that if you don't like something, it's very easy to change it to suit your tastes.

Chocolate Doom is fun because it's DOS Doom without requiring an emulator/computer that has MS-DOS installed. It can be refreshing to enjoy a stripped down experience without all the bells and whistles.

Zandronum is the only sourceport worth using for multiplayer WADs. Until Graf Zahl and his retarded gaggle of a dev team implements database support and unfucks Zdoom's network architecture to support more players, Zandronum fills an important niche.
Also if they could get it so that multiplayer worked fine out of the box without needing to waste time with configuring it, that would be great too.

Tried the normal way but the vertices only appear on the "true" floor and ceiling, not on the 3D floor.

Thoughts?

It's basically additional layer (some times several) of VM stacked on top of an executable. On modern systems it does not affect much, maybe 3-4 fps loss, but to say that it does not degrade performance at all would be a lie, as any overhead does that.
It would be much more noticable on slower machines. The exact implementation of Denuvo is on the game developer, so if implemented in a wrong way (like putting in too many checks on events that happen too often may degrade the performance significantly.

When it is hacked it is NOT removed (not by crackers), so the overhead and performance impact stays on pirated version as well. Some times developers remove denuvo after its hacked, most of the time they dont bother, which leaves you with worse optimised product that can stop working in a decade when Denuvo goes broke, or some other form of DRM makes it obsolete.

You should try a combo of Universal Gibs (set to use vanilla blood) with new Nashgore - in that load order.

No, I just played brutal doom for the first time just recently, and it's weird how the only thing they didn't copy was the speed.

Trailer felt painfully slow, which is weird when they look like they're trying to make a fast paced arena game. Every time the guy dashed to move around, it felt like he was unconsciously trying to go faster.

I mean if they were remaking doom as the slower corridor kind of game, that would be fine. But they're not. It's just a wave shooter or whatever you call it.

Also why is there no kicking.

1) Trailer's and game presentations like that are made deliberately slow, so people could see the details. Also most probably played on a controller

2) The speed of the original Doom requires apropriately scaled environments, which at the current demands for detail density would easily overload even most modern hardware, not to mention would take longer to make.

3) If the detail density is kept, another problem arise: designing detailed environments that arent too cluttered for such speed. This is a problem some over-detailed doom maps show, where player can easily get caugfht up on the parts of the environment. And what in oldDoom counts as overdetailed in nuDoom would look heavily underdetailed.

If you build detailed areas, but leave the base movement planes clear of hindrances, you will get the same effect as overdetailed ceiling has in a Doom map - too many details on one place, not many in others. High fidelity areas simply don't lend themselves to that kind of design.

You could alternate between firing the explosive fireball and using the machinegun if you wanted to, just gotta make sure to not go overboard in either direction.

I'm having a lot of fun with this weapon, the projectile bullets mark dudes like another weapon of Kustam's, and when enemies are marked they take more damage, so you could mark some nerds and then roast them extra hard with the flamer.

I swear this'll be the last heat-based weapon setup for awhile.

1) Brutal Doom is not the true inspiration for literally any mechanics in the new doom games.

2) There is a section of the Doom Eternal gameplay with a PC player and that is going to be the true speed of the game.

3) In Doom Eternal you can now punch whenever you want with your left hand, so there's no need for a kick. Plus, none of the canon doom games have had a kick, that's a brutal doom thing.

4) The dash is just a replacement for strafe jumping, and the way they are implementing it is (in my opinion) pretty fuckin sick.

They each serve a different purpose - Quake 1's soundtrack creates an immersive atmosphere of dread, while quake 2's soundtrack is some meathead riffing to keep you 'pumped' while you run through endless techbases.

It'll be the news post instead. Your idea is a little classier.
Baking thread, might as well do it a bit early since I may not get the chance later.

CRT blasts a ray of photons directly at you (through the screen). Light gun detects that. It's sensors are very simple. The synch mechanism gets the exact moment the trigger was pressed and whether or not it catch a blast of photons at that precise moment. Then it checks where was the photon ray at the time and whether it was drawing your supposed target. If it was, and the photons were caught by gun - they you hit it.

This obviously does not work if there are no photons being blasted at it. The reflection of projector or luminescense of a LCD is not enough for that.

There are devices that work with emulation - they substitute mouse clicks with a wiimote-like device to achieve same effect. You can also do the same with just a wiimote and some special software.
