Lately i've found out that Yoiko (Hamaguchi and Arino) partecipated on some interesting shit, most of all that one show where they were in a deserted place and needed to survive. I wish i could watch that subbed, somewhere.

Everytime I play Comix Zone this always happens, then I remember why I stopped playing. Not this exact instance, but something always glitches or gets funky or doesn't work the way it's supposed to. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the glitch Arino encountered wasn't caused by the age of the hardware. Don't even get me started on the hit detection issues in this game.

They'll probably get a good laugh out of your suggestion. There's no point in showing it because Tamage is for showing places that people might not know about. Everybody in Japan that's interested in retro games already knows about Super Potato. They're all over the place, I've been to a couple in Tokyo (Akihabara and Ikebukuro, there are probably more) and Osaka (near Namba).
They've usually got a good selection but they're slightly more expensive than their competitors. Retro Game Camp (also in Akihabara) was selling their Saturns for 1000￥ less than Super Potato last time I was there.

It's a bit more complex than that. The term "cartoon" IS used in Japanese, and generally refers to modern foreign (mostly American) cartoons that don't have a massive mainstream appeal over there. Read between the lines, and it's clear they're slowly going through the Castlevania series, and going to make a Symphony of the Night episode. After III, they did Bloodlines, which they finished just a few weeks ago. After that, they'll do Rondo, and then follow it up with Symphony. The only question is time-scale.

Uh my god. Do you guys really watch this? The older seasons are pretty much unwatchable for me due to the poor quality of the rips. Everything is .mp4, or .avi, low resolution, hard subs, etc. I started with the newest eps, liked them, and then wanted to go back earlier.

Who in their right minds thought .avi hardsubs was a good idea? I guarntee you they weren't anime fans, as they tend to be way more particular about this sort of thing.

The whole GCCX scene is a total mess and needs to be redone.

Localization mentality fansubs are the fucking worst. They sub things as if they're writing a dub script that kids are going to be watching on Nick. I think generally you can assume that anyone who is already informed or savvy enough to know about these shows and track down subs online, cultural differences and japanese terms/concepts aren't going to confuse them. If someone watching isn't familiar with something, they can literally type the fucking word into the same browser they used to watch or download the episode and find out in a few seconds.

This is why ironically TV-Nihon has come out on top in terms of sub quality. All of their competitors formed over the past decade as a counter to TV-N's old undertranslation habits. Yet now they're compensating way too far in the opposite direction, to the point of changing character/vehicle/attack etc names that contain Japanese (Aesir's Ornac and Warring shit, Over-Time's infamous GoBusterO/King fuck up, etc), purposely incorrectly translating things (Over-Time's Build), and even trying to translate sound effects (the Kamen Rider Ex-Aid subs by anyone other than TV-N were impossible to watch because of that), while TV-N has generally settled into a much better place with complete, accurate translations and no cringey localizations.

If TV-N could figure out that overbearing font colors, effects, and graphics are fucking awful and stop using them, they'd actually be the best place to get toku subs.

The entire point of subtitles is to make the work accessible to a new audience. Assuming that anyone interested in watching a man play old video games is going to be versed in obscure terms and often completely different game titles is just absurd.

The one I always fall back to is "Commando". Everyone in the west who knows of it, knows of it as Commando. For the people who don't, searching Commando is going to get them the most relevant results. Senjō no Ōkami is just gibberish to 99% of the audience for this show, and it's things like this that make the most sense.

Of course, you can split hairs over things like Mega Drive vs Genesis, but if you know one you alsmost certainly know the other. Given the target audience of Americans, the number of viewers who know Genesis but not MD is going to be higher than the number of viewers who know MD but not Genesis.

If maintaining the "original" meaning is so important to you, then you should learn Japanese. I don't watch tokushit because I'm not 5, but it's pretty sad that you're watching shows filled with terms that Japanese 5 year olds can understand, while you're just treating them as cool sounding gibberish because your "translation" group of choice can't actually be bothered doing their job. Watching Clock Tower, and it's pretty cool. So Arino hides up in the hay, then completely screws itup and goes down, runs right through the Scissors guy but he doesn't attack her and she in fact phases right through him like he's not there. It seems the enemies in the game decide the player is hidden, they just then play an animated sequence to leave that can't be cancelled.

If you're mostly into games you can learn a shitload about games you aren't familiar with through the main challenges and side segments. That's one of the best aspects of the show. What are some games you're genuinely surprised Arino managed to beat? For me,it's Kiki Kaikai for the PC Engine from S20E10. That game is hard as nails and even though he struggles a lot, he actually clears it.

Watching Arino play anything more complex than your usual Famicom platformer is very frustrating to me. The show’s formula just simply doesn’t work with anything that isn’t completely straightforward, turning challenges into boring boss montages.

I think it's because it breeds the worst kind of fan from all factions.
It's less popular than anime, so it brings in the self-important "I'm more Japan-savvy than you" passive consumer.
Stuff like GCCX is easier to understand compared to most TV, so it attracts the "fluent-but-not-quite" kind of Japanese speaker, the ones still stuck in the "I KNOW SO MUCH MORE THAN YOU" mentality.
And then there's the subbers, a breed that survives entirely on e-peen, but that is undermined from three sides by the:
a) 100% weeb Japanophiles who will criticize anything you do
b) Self-aggrandizing "fluent" speakers who deem your service worthless
c) Lack of attention and e-peen sucking because of the smaller audiences compared to anime

All in all, it's the perfect recipe for a shitshow of a community.

Also, I like how the game showcase corner actually followed the theme of the episode, instead of being a mostly random sequence of games.
