Are there any alternative controllers for the NES/SNES that don't use the DPad or use a much easier to press kind? When I was a kid I developed arthritis from a break that didn't heal so I could never play DPad dependent games. The only DPads I could use as a kid was the DS Lite and the GPA SP and now I can't even use those.

I have a couple of these and I love them. They are mostly known for shipping with the famiclone Dendy Classic which was popular in Russia. There are versions with the NES-style 7-pin plug, the ones I have I picked up as old stock from an eBay seller in Canada. Go looking for some.

There are sticks for both NES and SNES. I prefer the Advantage to the pad for certain games.

Can you use a slider or an arcade stick? I'm pretty sure there are controllers that replace the DPAD with a slider analogue thing, and there are are arcade sticks for every system nowadays.

OK, stupid post incoming. I've never even used a steam controller, but I know you can configure it such that you drag your finger across the touchpad dpad but you don't actually press down to click it. Does anybody know?
Good luck OP, I have RSI and although I don't use any special controller I'm adamant about taking frequent breaks

don't know if you've ever used one of those, but i can say from experience that they're pure shit. tried the genesis one back in the day and it made sonic1 virtually unplayable.

the D-pad is ass, but it's pretty much your only option for a turbo controller for the NES so what'cha gonna do?

Did any of you try playing with the keyboard on emulators?

Seriously having separate keys for up/down/left/right(WASD or arrows in standard PC gamer position) is a game changer and having separate keys for A and B really makes you realize what terrible horse shit controllers are.

Who did think using 1 thumbs to fondle a D-pad and another thumb to fondle 2 buttons was a good idea?

Personally I like WASD + NUM-4 and NUM-8 for A and B.

Brand new that piece of shit required more pressure than an OEM controller that has broken contacts.

AWD + Space for D pad
I see you have alien/mutant hands.

The truth is that this is my universal setup.
I need space and SHIFT they are used in SNES style controls to emulate the shoulder buttons.
NUM-4
NUM-8
NUM-6
NUM-ENTER
Are used for ABXY in the same natural WASD hand position.

You even can get your thumb on one arrow key to have a full 10 finger control setup.

No, it's ASD + Space
A = Left
S = Down
D = Right
Space = Up

>> No.5185053

>>5185050
Use W instead of S its far more comfortable in the hand position trust me.

Because if you have a human hand you realize your middle finger is longer then the rest of your fingers.

you don't want to create a claw with your hand.

Sure you can, it's piss easy to do. I find the touch pad too pig to use it as a dpad but it's a matter of taste. Be sure to put the haptic feedback at least at medium.

yeah it is weird that they'd end up using positioning that every other console has used since. i guess they were thinking, "this is the future" and were right.

You just take out the red slider and put an xbox360 analog stick cover in there. Works better for shmups but it is playable with platformers and such. Takes a bit to get used to but it works surprisingly well. Also you can put the shitty red slider button back in and go back to stock if you want. I never would, but the mod is 100% reversible.

>>5183543
They work alright, but honestly I found these harder to use than a regular controller. I mean, they feel more ergonomic but it makes the dpad and buttons feel like they are in a strange place. You could probably get used to them but I gave up after an hour or so.
