So, why is it called "Street Fighter" if it's all about karatekas, evil corporations, weird experiments and demigods? Final Fight was supposed to be the sequel, and in that one you walk around the bad parts of the city beating thugs and punks.

This as well, but it's odd how they eventually started doing lots of stages which are just the character's homes.

Originally it's about guys fighting all over the world in street fighting tournaments. You may notice that the stages are not inside rings right? The cast of SF1-2 are mostly just regular people. Blanka is the only exception. After SFII they start adding more and more fantastical designs and creatures to the series, making it less based on anything grounded.

And that makes sense when you remember that night after SF2 they made a fighter about monsters and another fighter about superheroes, both of which pushed the envelope on the fighting genre was a whole. So it would make sense that once they returned to Street Fighter it would get a little more over the top.

Final Fight or World Warriors would have been way better name choices.

They should have kept Street Fighter '89 as Final Fight name and released SF2 as either Final Fight or World Warriors.
