>Zelda II is not a Zelda game. It's a side scrolling action exploration game.
It's almost like a Metroid game, and if they got rid of the goddamn XP points, and I could be given a reliable strategy against the Iron Knuckles I would it's a damn good Metroid game. I wish there was a Zelda Classic version of it or a romhack of Metroid with Zelda 2's levels.
NES, SNES, GBA, it wouldn't matter. A metroid game with Zelda 2 levels would be fuckin' bad ass.

>What is Zelda Classic?
http://zeldaclassic.com/what.php

>No one told me level design was so time consuming.
>I don't have a real title for it yet. It was originally going to be a 2.10 quest and I had 3 levels already made. It wasn't going to have triforce pieces, just dungeons with gear at the end of a boss. Once 2.5 came out and I shelved it for a few years.
Currently recreating it in 2.5 with a better tileset. We'll see how far I get before I quit again.
You should post it on a file sharing site, without a password so others can continue it, when/if you give up.
To keep you motivated from giving up in the first place, you should post videos to YouTube, about how awesome it will be.

>Zelda Classic Passwords.
Why the fuck do they even have passwords? Why do ZC creators give a fuck if a shitty remake of their game is made?

Is there a way to hack the passwords? Google hasn't helped me in the past two years, and for the curious,
THERE IS A WAY TO CHEAT ZELDA CLASSIC.

>Play a the Zelda Classic Game.
>Remember what sector of the hub you start at.
>Create your own Zelda Classic Game that starts at that sector.
>Give yourself all the power ups /invincibility you want.
>Start the game. Save and Quit.
>Rename the original Zelda Classic with the same name as your version.

Controls look like shit but the way the monsters explode is kind of cool.

Big and empty though, and slow paced. Not great but an interesting idea.

At least it got to the playable point. There was some 3d version of Link's Awakening that got canceled; they had a really great remix of Tal Tal heights that I lost.
Or maybe it was the other remake that wasn't 3d. That one had a playable version but it wasn't that great.

It was still going to be a free game. If Nintendo would make a Pokemon MMO themselves, as so many fans have requested, then everyone would win. Of course I understand that an MMO is a much larger undertaking than most other kinds of game, and it'd also mean people have less reason to put down full price for a slightly altered Pokemon game every few years.

>Zelda 2 more of a metroid game than a zelda game

almost. It's really neither though. It's like a combination between castlevania (platforming with pitfalls, lives, getting hit knocks you back into pits, healing items hidden in walls that appear when you attack them), zelda (dungeons, collecting items from dungeons that help you progress through the game, keys to open locked doors in dungeons, triforce pieces/crystals/pendants/sages/instruments type thing at end of dungeon that you need to complete all of (though it's backwards, you're returning the crystals not taking them)) and any early jrpg (random enemy encounters every few steps, exp, towns with npcs, magic spells)

I mean Metroid had some of those aspects as well.

Zelda 2 is it's own beast. It's not a bad game it's just a bad ZELDA game.

Although it can't be blamed to harshly though. It was the second game so what a ZELDA game was wasn't as defined.

This is true, but it was kind of an experiment, like the first Zelda was, and the results of the experiment was that a game using the design of the original Legend of Zelda, with a few Zelda 2 features (towns, multi level dungeons, magic/magic meter) to make the complete Zelda formula which first came into fruition in LttP, which really cemented what makes a Zelda game a Zelda game, though many games are missing magic meters (that one comes and goes) and many don't have 2 "worlds".

It's only in the broad scope of the entire series that you can call Zelda 2 a bad Zelda game.
