Thinking about converting a small "walk in" closet into a small game room. Good Idea? Bad Idea? Any advice or tips?

Damn. Go look at all that stuff one by one. Anything you don't plan to use in the next few months, sell/toss it.

Also fucking toss those board games and get real ones. Who the fuck owns Munchkin in <this year>

What the fuck did you just fucking say about board games, you little bitch? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Munchlins, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on Boardwalk, and I have over 300 confirmed get out of jail cards. I am trained in risk and I'm the top yahtzee player in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another small straight. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of Parker Brothers employees across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You're fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can beat you at Scrabble in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with verbs. Not only am I extensively trained in Hungry Hungry Hippos, but I have access to the entire Catalogue of Avalon Hill and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit hotels all over you and you will drown in it. You're fucking bankrupt, kiddo

cool crt, I have never owned a magnavox but I remember that style being pretty common. I have honestly never even tried hooking a snes up to a new tv but if you can make it work then fuck it, do whatever works.

>> No.5154409

I have a few ideas. I want to paint the walls a dark color, maybe charcoal black? The floor is covered with some sort of laminate flooring you find in your grandmas kitchen. I could easily cover it with a carpet or rug cut to size. Then sound...maybe a few acoustic foam pads. Worried about air flow though.
Lighting is a issue too...thinking about putting up christmas tree lights, thinking it will get too hot?

i had been looking for a crt casually on craigslist and garage sales....one day i went to go see a movie and decided to take a short cut through my old neighborhood. Driving by and saw this on the curb with a "free" sign on it....kept on driving. dawned on me....screeeeeech. drove backwards 1 block. Step out look at it....its perfect. like it was in this persons basement the whole time.. plus.......on top . The Original Remote. COOL. Finally.

I dont think itd be a good idea. Where are you going to sit? You cant fit a couch. You cant have other people playing or hanging out with you. I doubt the ventilation in a closet is good and itd end up heating up with a warm body and plenty of systems/TV in there too. Just seems needlessly self-limiting and uncomfy if you ask me

>> No.5154769

That looks really tight. Very claustrophobic too, must be rough on the summer.
I also don't feel comfortable with my back to the door, but that's me.
Get some ventilation going, make it very bright, you can make it work.
Just ditch the collecting and go for everdrives.

This. There's a lot more value to be gained right now in collecting thrift store board games than trying to collect thrift store video games and /tg/ is actually played with other people. Just make up your own gramps-insert about girls here. I don't feel like coming up with one today.

but yeah thanks for the input everyone. I plan on working on it during my next day off. I'll post a update when I can with pictures.

Also. I was wondering If I was going to paint the walls what would be a good color to choose? I plan on using christmas tree lights for the lighting possibly

In that situation I'd sell everything on that floor and invest in a corner desk. You could have a CRT on one half and a flat screen on the other and a PC in the middle. Merge all your games onto the opposing self and take down at least the first two tiers of shelving. From there you can spruce it up with posters/christmas lights/etc. Also, get rid of that lightstring and buy a colored bulb to make it cozier.

>>5155915
OP here. Thats not a bad idea...but i like the idea of just being completely isolated. The ventilation is a issue as there is none and no way for me to put any in. Since my back will be towards the door if it does get hot i can always just open it and turn off all the lights in my living room and it should be the same, except for the sound of the tv i guess.

>>5155985
I might have room for my CRT and the older flat screen. It might not look like it but those shelves are all jam packed with stuff. After finding room for all the crap on the ground idk if i could find room for anything on the shelves. I would like to though because I do like your idea of putting up a few posters. Also the colored bulb would be a good idea!

I do want to put up a few squares of sound proof foam somewhere though...idk if it would matter much after i put in some carpeting or a rug and my recliner.

>>5156015
Yeah I was thinking something dark. Ha! I like the idea for the black light rug...then maybe i could buy a black light for the bulb. idk how much I would enjoy it in the long run though and black lights kinda start to get to me after awhile. Thanks for the input though. Do you have a specific Color for the walls in mind?

Isuzu like a midnight blue. Remember the actual light source will be the CRT black light just blend nicely with CRT illumination and then maybe a very small downward shining reading light the entertainment center in maybe amber. Some guy in the battle station threads has this fixation on vintage amps and shit with amber illuminated analog gauges on them. I'm not entirely sure about the quality of that stuff considering how hard they must be to find but they really do have a certain pleasant look in his entertainment center.

fuck all the ideas, what you need is a shelf on wheels to hold and consoles and TV, that slides to a side wall, bellow those 3 existing shelves on one side, wheel it off, cover the closet-door with it (assuming the rest of the bedroom walls are blocked) and play the games in the well ventilated bedroom

or if youre relocating the bike anyway, have that shelf-on-wheels just as wide and tall as the closet, you just open the door, pull chairs out and play.
in all cases the whole thing move away to reveal rare usage storage space

Top tier comfy, especially that couch (assuming it's really fucking soft).

Honestly OP, I have a regular sized closet and when I open it I have an Ikea shelf with a TV on it and in the four cubbies I have a SNES, N64 and a bunch of games and controllers. I wheel my chair from my computer to the closet and open the doors and play some games. That's good enough for me but I am a big fan of small spaces and would love a closet like you have. I would minimize what's on the shelving and maybe put one chair in their at an angle depending on the size.

If there's a stud in the bare wall, get yourself a crt wall mount. I see them on Ebay for around $30 shipped fairly often. Doesn't take more than a drill and being able to find the center of the stud to hang, unless you're trying to put a trinitron or something equally heavy in. Then you'll have space under it for foot space, more storage, systems, etc.

ah I think I thought it was a different type of material/couch and thought it was those super soft cushions that you only get from a nicely worn couch. I had two like that, they were about 15 years old and we would put a think blanket over them and it was absolute bliss for playing games. Laying down was exactly as >>5163973 described and I always felt like I was facing the wrong direction and kept switching ends of the couch during sleepovers.

I was hoping to start working on it last monday but after going to the store and looking at paint supplies, paint, rug for the floor, I didn't have enough money. I'll have to wait until monday when I get paid. I think I can get it done in one day.
All I have to do it remove all the shit from the floor, everything off the shelves, remove shelves. Paint once, and possibly twice. Let paint dry. clean up. Place down rug. move all my games and stuff back onto the shelves. Set up my tv and a few consoles. put up a few sound proof foam squares, maybe a poster or two. then bring in my recliner.

The only thing I cant really decide on is the color of paint to use. I want something on the dark side but not totally black, any ideas?

I'm a big fan of shades of blue but dark blue might not be the best. I personally prefer having a bright room (my walls are white) with the lights out when playing games, the glow from the screen against the white walls gives me all that I need to see in the room without having another light source that would glare against the screen. You also can't really go wrong with shades of brown/tan because they hide scuffs/marks pretty well (that's a big downside to white walls).

How big is your recliner? I have a small office room and I can't fit a decent recliner in here so I went with a comfy loveseat and a soft stool to rest my feet on, this makes it possible to do couch co-op with my wife or my cats.
