Why do people call this the "PSX"?

PSX is actually just used as a short form for "playstation eggs" since a major selling point of the original playstation was that it could not only play the newest games but also fry eggs.

PlayStation eXperimental. It originally was gonna be connecting to the weird port on the bottom of the snes. Nintendo and Sony had a fight. Triangle wins. Triangle man.

It's been explained many times...I do it because it pisses off those people who hate it and also because the X key is right next to the S key so it's much quicker to type PSX than it is PS1...you have to let go of shift, too if you're doing it in caps like it should be.

In the emulation scene it was always PSX. Being a part of that since the early 00's, PSX is just engrained into my mind. This is also the only place I've been to where people lose their shit over it, so there was never a second thought of using it for me.

PS-X is in damn near every executable of all PS1 games
PS-X is also in its SDK
PSX was just easier to say because you didn't need to add the hyphen, and since every game has "PSX.EXE" as their game executable it seemed reasonable
That and due to the late 90's aestheric, anything with an X made it sound cooler
It's the "PS" or "PlayStation" and neither sounds as radical as "PSX"

>Its accurate and plays fine sure, but its a pixelated mess.

I didn't buy a 4K monitor to look at a 320x224 image blown up into a blurry distorted mess. If I wanted to play with its original resolution I'd use the actual console.

To hell with those who don't offer the option for increased resolutions. Get with it guys!

>> No.5159190

The best comparison I can make is how today people often call the Xbox One the "XB1" in text. You don't walk around hearing many people talking about the "ecks bee wun" instead calling it the "Xbox One" like how very few walked around saying "pee ess ex" they just said "PlayStation". Both PSX and XB1 are shorthand lingo used in magazines, internally by developers, forum users, etc. Of course you hear people actually saying "PSX" (as well as "PS1" and "PlayStation 1" obviously) nowadays a lot more than in the 90s but that's because "PlayStation" is too generic of a term to use.

I forgot the term for it, but they were trying to avoid losing the trademark by it becoming general. That's what LEGO did as well, and what Kleenex failed to do. That's why they're asking the general public to "use [their] trademark carefully", and to "never use it generically", since that could lead to them losing it.

>> No.5164012

Where did that ad actually appear? I've never seen it before.
That looks like the kind of thing that would show up in publications aimed at journalists and other industry people more than the general public.
