Batman and Batman Returns are great. TMNT 2&3 are decent, so is Punisher.
Anything else worth checking out?

Really the whole "licensed games are always bad." thing didn't become solidified until 5th gen.

I didn't say the bad ones didn't exist, but there were definitely lots of good ones to be found, especially for the NES. It's just it wasn't until the late 90s when you could safely count on a licensed game being a turd.

Surprised that no modern reviewer has gone back and asked why everyone was cool with Batman committing murder.

Licensed games could still be good even into the non-retro era, it was just extremely rare. Pic related is one of the only examples I know of.

>Batman Returns

I think Returns on NES is underrated.Everyone talks about the SNES one but the NES one is great. It does have difficulty spikes though, and the dash attack hurts on the finger after a while.

Anyway - Astérix and The Smurfs, PAL exclusive, are good games.

Mission Impossible. Hard but great.

Tiny Toons Adventure, great platformer. Learn the slide-jump speed boost of Buster and go wild.

Monsters In My Pocket, fun in co-op

Bucky O' Hare

Duck Tales 1 and 2, especially 2

Chip'n'Dales, obviously, CnD2 is decent

Darkwing Duck

G.I Joe and G.I Joe The Atlantis Factor are oaky

On Famicom:

Choujin Sentai Jetman. easy, short, but fun

Solbrain, which became Shatterhand in the west, nuff said

Kyattou Ninden Teyandē, or Samuraï Pizza Cats, fun platformer where you get to switch between a fun ton of characters with different abilities

Sweet Home

Batman vs Superman he kills people and the movie took ALOT of heat from pussy fanboys for it. The Dark Knight trilogy he didn't explicitly kill (although that "I don't have to save you shit is a copout). What the fanboys don't like to mention is the ORIGINAL incarnation of Batman created by Bob Kane not only killed but carried a gun. Blame roastie Whitney Ellsworth for codifying this new rule.

LJN released a mixed bag of bad and good titles. They deservedly did get a lot of shit for some of the games they released, but they did work with developers like Atlus and Rare, who could deliver a few good games every once in a while.

Ocean Software was even worse than LJN when it came to releasing licensed garbage. Ocean only ever released a few decent licensed titles with the vast majority of their library being absolute trash.

>snatcher is the best sega cd game

I like Snatcher and all, but it is in a totally different genre from Terminator. One is a run and gun platformer, the other is a digital novel. The Terminator on the Sega CD falls under that 'multi-platform gun, run and jump' template that Virgin was well known for. Earthworm Jim falls into the same sub genre. And it is really good for what it is. Plus it has a great soundtrack. Snatcher is also a great Digital Comic, with a good english localization that was done by some of the same people who did the localization for Metal Gear Solid 1.

Die Hard for the NES. A great survival aspect here, you must steal equipment from the enemies to survive, and you only have limited healing items available, + John McClane's barefoot like in the movie, so you must be careful with your feet as well, or they'll be injured and you can't move anymore and will get killed easily.

Also, limited stealth mechanics, you can use walls and ventilation ducts as cover to avoid being seen, and the enemies actually won't attack until they see you. Also also, multiple endings depending on how well you perform, and a time limit to keep things tight. This game was fucking brilliant for its time, and a great movie license game to boot.

The meta scene with Hulk Hogan was the funniest thing in the world to me.

So then I got to play the NES game, and it's hard, real hard, but it's SO cool and fun! The levels were neat, and it had great graphics, with cutscenes that actually did a good job mirroring scenes and shots from the movie.
Also, being a Sunsoft game, the music is absolutely kickass, take a gander at this OONTZ OONTZ OONTZ

Euros were quite into westerns, just like everybody else.
The American Civil War falls readily under the umbrella of the wild west, so you'll definitely see it in European fiction about this era in America.
Hell, Italians are REALLY into westerns and cowboys, hence why Spaghetti Western is a recognized term, some of the best wild west films ever made falling into this category.

You even have a strong presence of Cowboy Action Shooting in countries like Italy, with multiple Italian companies making faithful (and some quite high quality) replicas of classic wild west firearms, such as Cimarron, Uberti and Pietta.
Not just typical replicas of the classic Colt Peacemaker revolver either, but also stuff which just isn't easily found these days, like Schofield revolvers, or Colt Lightning rifles.

This reminds me, here is one really good licenced game I forgot to mention.

The Lone Ranger by Konami.

Action-adventure game with in a western universe with plenty of different gameplay types. You have top down perspective shooting, you have sidescrolling action-platformer parts, you have light-gun parts in faux-3D maze, and even sidescrolling parts on a horse.

I had never heard of this game until recently and I was more than pleasantly surprised.

If you're familiar with Getsu Fuma Den, it looks like this game reuses part of its "engine", just like the first TMNT game did; but this time it's a very solid game and the action-platfomer parts play more like Castlevania.

The last dungeon of the game with the traps reminded me of Mission Impossible, another NES Konami game, but in a good and more fair way.
