so, which one is the best?
currently playing year of the dragon for the first time and it's pretty good, except for some strange sound glitch and the multiple char gimmicks (the yeti is fucking slow and boring)

I started with 1 and love them all but I think 2 is the best. It had the strengths of 1's unique atmosphere and world design and 3's objective-based collecting. Any answer from the first 3 games is the right answer but it's obvious that the end of 3 was rushed, and playing as the other 4 creatures eventually wears a little thin. It was cool seeing Insomniac prototyping for Ratchet and Clank with the monkey though.

I honestly view them as equal, but 3>2>1 because I feel like the games improved with each one (as long as you have the Greatest Hits version of 3 anyway).

1 has actual platforming, including blind jumps. 2 and 3 are minigame collections. The Sly series has the same problem,

My first one was 2 and it was the one i played with a friend so it has extra nostalgic value.
but beyond that

1 > 2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 3

the third one is just a series of minigames just for the sake of it.
I would've much rather played an expansion pack of the 2 or some sort.

>> No.5149186

The first is better because it's just a platformer. No stupid skateboarding shit, random fucking mini games, or gay ass companions. It's pure like classic Sonic and crash.

Unrelated question. I have a spyro game in a ps2 case. I thought it was a ps2 game/ sequel since i do not know anything about the series but this thing looks exactly like a ps2 box and manual but it just says playstation at the top instead of playstation 2. I can not find anything online about this box. Were there other late ps1 releases that came in a ps2 format? Is this a reproduction?

The only PS1 game I've ever seen with a release in a PS2 case was Metal Gear Solid from the Essentials Collection, and even that says PlayStation on the side instead of the top. What does the disc look like? Could just be a custom case someone made.

Try checking Walmarts in dead areas. A LOT of them still have this trilogy laying around in the clearance section somewhere for as cheap as they can possibly sell it.

1>>>2=3. Best soundtrack + best level design. Big, sprawling levels focused on exploration instead of shitty mini-games. Dragon cutscenes were a nice reward for reaching a difficult area.

1 has the best core gameplay with the most challenge and great level design.

2 has amazing world building and great level design too.

3 can feel slowed down from the amount of minigames and extra characters. But if you play it without them then it's basically half a spyro game, which is still pretty good.

>> No.5151849

>>5147721
2 > 1 > 3

2 made many improvements on the gameplay introduced in 1, while also adding variety of minigames. Animation, graphics and controls feel a lot more polished too.

3 went way too crazy with the minigames and different playable characters Sheila's gameplay is solid, big guy is okay, but penguin and monkey overstay their welcome.

my first game was 2, I agree with this

>> No.5156024

Spyro 1 is the most nostalgic for me. I played the demo at Best Buy and my dad bought me the system with Spyro. It's honestly super hard for me to choose between this and RR because this game had THE BEST LEVELS.

Spyro 2 was fan-fucking-tastic and the levels were comfy as fuck. Being able to swim and climb ladders was the shit. Even climbing on top of Autumn Plains and hearing the wind still gives me a chub.

Spyro 3 was fun, but I liked it the least out of the trilogy. I'm replaying it now before the remake comes out and I just don't care for any of the levels besides Enchanted Towers. Playing as the other characters is mediocre despite Bentley being my favorite level when I was younger.

Really sucks Insomniac really did run out of ideas for Spyro.
