I wouldn't use the word amazing but there was something about the adventurous vibe of it that I really appreciated, and that kept me playing it. It's structurally a mess though, and although the soundtrack had its high points there was a fair amount of filler crap in there too. If the combat weren't so mindless and the platforming not so terrible feeling I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more than I did. I can kinda forgive it since it's the first 3D game in the series but that doesn't really make it any better.

That's a pretty narrow category though. The only other thing I can really think of is Nightmare Creatures. Maybe Blood Omen, if you wanna count that.

Every 3D castlevania I've played is ass. Lament and Curse were so fucking boring I had to put them down, and I managed to slog through DMC2. But even then they still have great OSTs, like every Castlevania game.
