5141846 No.5141846 [Reply] [Original]

During the 1980's, neither the Nintendo Entertainment System, The SEGA System, nor the Atari VCS used the letter "L" in their titles.
The reason? The letter "L" was avoided because the companies which produced these systems, being based in Japan, were run by Japanese speakers who were unable to pronounce this letter!

By contrast, Colecovision and Intellivision were produced by Coleco Industries and Mattel Electronics respectively, two American companies that proudly boasted their owners' capability to say the "L" sound. They intentionally (and prominently) included the letter in their titles to give the gaming systems an American feel, and to humiliate their Japanese competitors.

All of 4chan is affected by this. It's because rule #3 states that you cannot do anything fun. You are only allowed to make sophisticated, insightful threads. So the only thing left around is for people to come up with the most outrageous troll topics possible to get more (you)'s.

Some boards like /toy/ are less affected because they deal with actual physical things that cost money. /vr/ has it much worse since it deals with very old and often very basic games, that appeal to less and less people over time (consider that for a person who just hit 18, the PS2 would already be retro).

Kids tend to not tolerate "boomers" correcting their misinformation. They get enough of adults telling them their business in their daily lives, between home and school or any McJob they might be old enough to have. Additionally, they fetishize this stuff. It's the relics from some "golden age" they weren't around for, so they tend to make up what they imagine it must've been like based on Youtube videos and a healthy dose of wishful thinking. When that gets challenged by people who were actually there, they start doing this weird meme shit. Much like the "PSX" stuff and "Zelda II didn't sell." The best part is that even though it's born out of a scorching case of asshurt, they can just hide behind "we were just le trolling" when they get backed into a corner.
