How do I play NES and whatnot games online in a simple way with my friend? We tried NES Online but probably since she has a connection of <1MB of upload there is a deadly input lag, but maybe there are emulators or some softwarethat could work better.
sorry if this is unwanted request btw, but maybe we could organize something between anons.

Upload bandwidth is generally not a limiting factor. It's the latency between your connections. How long does it take for your computer to ping hers?

Personally, I’d recommend Retroarch’s netplay, which works pretty well. Mesen and Nestopia also have netplay. Though realistically, I don’t think these would work better than the NES multiplayer on the Switch.

Oh, I see, we'll check in a couple of hours, but how could we reduce that lantency?

>>5131794
Thank you, it's a shame that it would still be tricky to play but I'll still take it as a last resort, probably with Retroarch (I didn't knew there was a netplay in it desu)

It's not my fault entirely, no one teaches you how internet connection exactly works, and we made a connection test withing the console a got NAT A, the only prejudicing fact seemed to be her upload speed, I made that conclusion as online on Switch it's not on actual servers but on p2p, but yeah, I lack some real knownledge on how this actually works

Move closer together.

I can't think of any emulators that have good lag mitigation built-in. There is Fightcade for arcade games though and it works really well.

I see, thanks for the tip about arcade games, we actually live in the same country but we are 1330km apart, if there isn't a solution then we will wait to play them together IRL I guess... the sad thing is that there is even a low latency mode on NES Online but it's still a garbage

Not that anon but I've had luck with it in the past, but to be fair the two friends I've tried it with live in the same town, don't know what your situation is.

The only issue I had was I had to explain Retroarch itself to one of the friends and he's not into emulation at all, but the netplay itself is pretty straight forward.

idk what you'd like to hear but we are 1330kms apart, and I also live in an island in the country, so yeah, it's kinda far, anyway, I thought Retroarch was easy to set up on Windows and has intuitive UI but maybe I was wrong? she isn't used to emulation either but I also think it could have been a good way to introduce it

sure!

i've found netplay to be kind of wonky with retroarch.
if you have identical setups it works okay, but across platforms it is hit and miss....mostly miss....
windows users can try this:
