24 hours of some old MMORPG that is probably dead now. 24 hour double XP events and a great deal of spare time is a terrible combo.

Played NES Metal Gear 8 hours straight trying to beat it as a kid without much info. Got little over half-way through before I had to call it quits.

Pulled a 12-hour all nighter with a friend playing the SNES port of NBA Jam TE. I still have the cart with my 36-0 record and the all-star team replacing rookies. To the full extent of the Jam motherfucker.

Three times I played a games for more than 15 hours straight.

1. A friend of mine challenged me to beat all of the classic Mega Man games in one day, this was before 10 was released.

2. Same friend challenged me to beat each of the mainline Metal Gear games in one day.

3. Was challenged again to play through the entirety of Shadow of the Colossus in one sitting. This was my first, and only time I've played the game.

I can't remember them ever spreading out parts of a sub this far apart. I would think that they'd be done or almost done translating everything when they start releasing anything. I could've sworn that they had talked about subbing it a while ago, so I went to look on old pages of their forum. Once someone subs an episode, even very very poorly, it's extremely unlikely it'll get subbed again. So a bad sub basically kills the chance of a good sub coming out, meaning there is no waiting for high quality subs for that episode anymore.
If he'd just put out a softsub though it'd be fine, as with the timing and basic translation there it'd be trivial for someone competent to come along and finish it up. But a bad hardsub is worse than no sub at all, if you want a proper translation.

The only episode that got retranslated was the Ghosts'n Goblins one and the Northernmost Arcade special. A bunch of TVN-subbed challenges also ended up on the American DVD release with subs, but that was just a lucky break.

Manga translations are a different beast altogether. Even if you know Japanese decently, you can't tell how good a translation is because the translator removed all the Japanese from the release. If you want to check, you need to locate a raw and sit there crossreferencing the two like an asshole.

This means it's pretty easy for any retard to just "translate" without really knowing the language and be fairly secure that he won't get called out. Can't do that with TV shows and movies, since the audio is right there.

There's often some AD overlap, and Watanabe was usually behind the scenes actually assisting with the directing. She wasn't really there to help much with the games. She comes back in a later season as a full director.

Different ADs have different jobs on the show. The ADs who help during the game challenges can have some grueling obligations. They test out games beforehand pretty thoroughly to help decide what should be on the show and to find the trouble spots. They take notes during Arino's challenges and do a lot of the episode editing afterward. If Arino can't beat a game, an AD almost always finishes it to show the ending. It's like a training camp to see if the ADs have what it takes to work in TV.

Directors do pretty much what you would expect. They would help with planning, filming, editing, etc.

The first time I played FF VI was two years ago the day before thanksgiving. I started playing around 1AM . Feels like fucking yesterday, where is time going.
Any way, I played it from start to finish, no guide, only took breaks to piss or get food to smuggle into my cave. Took about 40 hours or so, was hopped up on energy drinks. Emulator also crashed and I lost about 5 hours of progress. I even grabbed thanksgiving dinner and ate it while playing FF in my room

I can barely finish anything or start anything due to anhedonia. I'd been trying to play FFVI for years but it bored me, This time it finally clicked and I just enjoyed everything about it so much and was having such a great time, being genuinely happy that I didn't want it to end. After about 20 hours, I knew if I went to sleep, I would feel like depressed shit like usual when I woke up and not be able to ever finish it so I just said "fuck it" and took it on as a challenge to finish it in one sitting on my first playthrough

Absolutely and I'm not just talking about the threads here, I've noticed it everywhere I see people talking about the show. People are always flaunting their superiority, trying to gatekeep the show, putting others down for not enjoying it the same way they do, etc.

I actually think this is probably the best place to discuss the show, even if the threads have been slow lately. The other places I've seen people talk about it are full of terrible people.

You can't say anything about the lack of translations for it without getting retards babbling about learning japanese or muh piracy (of a japanese tv show with 0 western presence). Threads are slow because everything is old news and there's little to discuss without new episode subs, unfortunately.

Exactly anon, I feel the same way too about Arino and the show and if this was done by your usual gaming eceleb it would have zero appeal. He comes across as such a genuine person that I sometimes wonder if the "bad at games, genuine good guy" persona is just an act, but if it is he's a damn good actor!

Shit like this always makes me laugh. As if there are hundreds of fan translators just lying around looking for something new to pick up.

We're talking about a fairly in-depth, long form show here, with lots of casual dialogue. Right off the bat, you can basically ignore about 95% of people working on translations right now, their skill level isn't actually high enough to deal with TV. Then, you take out all the people who aren't interested in the subject matter, and you're left with well under a percent. Then, you throw in the fact there's another group already doing it, and soaking up 99% of the potential E-peen? You're left with literally nobody.

It's not a "code of honor". It's "why the fuck would I work on something when nobody will suck my dick for it?"

You're lucky to even have the lazy retards on SA subbing this shit for you. Aside from GCCX, the only things that get subbed are dramas, idolshit, and Gaki. Ignorance is bliss, and if you knew about the other few dozen weekly shows out of Japan that are highly entertaining and unheard of in the west, you'd probably rather see them get subtitles anyway.

The fansubbing "industry" is a revolving door that constantly takes in beginners and lets proficient people go.
As soon as you get good enough to do "real stuff" with your Japanese, there's no reason to stay in the scene.
I know about that firsthand.

I used to scanlate and fansub stuff when I was an N2 shitter. But when I got my N1 + degree and started working professionally it just started feeling like a waste, since when your work is worth €40+/h it's hard to do it not only for free, but while being berated for everything you do as well.

Mostly a waste of time.

I mean, if you have fun doing it then go for it, but it's one of those things you gotta be able to do while knowing you'll never get anything out of it.
No one in the scene is in the industry or has any links to it, nothing you do in fansubbing/scanlation will be of any use in your life.
Not only that, a traceable past in fanslation will directly hurt your chances with all Japanese companies, who will probably discard you on the sole basis that you probably helped those pesky pirates that cause trillions of (alledged) damages every year.

At the end of the day, even if you slave away for free for a decade you will get no recognition, no added skill (since almost no manga or anime even counts as practice past a certain point), and a permanent black mark on your resume if you don't cover your tracks.

I recommend fansubbing only if you have absolutely no intention of ever having relations with Japan or any job related to using the language.
