The amount of detail is next to none. The level design is mediocre as fuck. Every room is either a gigantic arean style rectangle with a platform or 2, or a long straight corridor.
You wanna talk about detail in SOTN talk about the OST, that is a masterpiece.

The fuck are you talking about? It starts off a Brahne as the main villain, then introduces Kuja as the guy behind the scenes at Burmecia and then he's the main villain until the end. Garland is never built up to be the main villain as he's worried about Kuja as well. Necron isn't even a character, he's just the final boss because they wanted be deep or something.

Well in the interest of staying on topic and not just debating which Final Fantasy is the best or if JRPGs are gay or not, I'll answer OP's question.

Can't really put it into words, but I think Super Mario RPG had a lot of love in it. I think the people working on it really enjoyed it. From the art, to the story, to the music and to the gameplay, it all feels like a labor of love.
