I beat these six games for the first time this past week. Why couldn't the X games stay this consistently good for six games? Which was your favorite robot master?

Because the x series started out good and got bad midway through. The original was just bad from the beginning.

The reason why the original Megaman series was so consistent was because of its narrative simplicity and a reliable gameplay formula. Dr. Wily is out causing trouble, go stop him, that's it. It's not a surprise that the more they injected story into the Megaman X games, they started degrading in quality despite having a great gameplay formula working for them. Capcom only figured out how to do long-winded story pacing properly when Mega Man Zero came around.

My favorite robot master will be Skull Man. He's got a kickass stage theme too.

Yeah but they start really shitting the bed on level design and forced story by X5 on. At least 1-4 were good but I see many say not consistently good like with the NES MM series. Maybe Capcom should have made 6 X games for SNES like they did MM for NES?

You should play 7,8,9,10 and 11. They're all good too, especially 9.

The spin off games are also good: notably Power Fighters and Power Battles but also Battle & Chase (play the Jap version, I can help with the translation if you want I have some screenshots, the western release have less content)

The game boy games are also good, especially V, although II kinda suck especially due to the musics.

tl;dr it's more than 6 games that were constantly good, it's all of them.

The problem isn't 'the size of the main sprite', the problem is the low FOV. This doesn't come from the 'main sprite', it comes from everything.

My guess is they wanted to make him more detailed since it's "16 bit".

Either way, it's not a problem all the time, only in some key places, and it stops being a problem once you've played the game a couple times, then it starts to become really fun.
