The 7502 is actually better. The PS1 wasn't locked to NTSC or PAL, it's fully software controlled. However, all those later games that had extra copy protection tend to shut it off if it detects the PAL region BIOS. The reason for this is unknown.

The game isn't going to run at 60hz if the console only runs in 50hz. Most consoles are locked to either 60hz or 50hz, the PS1 is one of the few exceptions to this rule since it will run at the right speed as long as you can bypass the region lock at boot. Some consoles like the Megadrive can easily be switched because the only regional difference was a hard-soldered switch on the PCB, but the Famicom/NES has a different version of the CPU chip in the PAL version that runs at a different speed, making it completely impossible for it to run at 60hz.

Yes. They are somewhat cheap. I replaced a SCPH-1001 and it was very easy. There are a few various models of the laser sled, but IIRC the sled that fits in the PSOne will fit. Are there any notable advantages to this mod aside from cross region play?
I'm in Europe so I don't know how I'll get hold of American games. Unless ofc I can also mod it to run games off an SD card or something.
And if I could do that then playing the games at 60Hz instead of 50Hz is indeed an obvious advantage.

In general it seems that the 32X was Sega's alternative to the Nintendo's heavy focus on on-cart chips for the SNES. Rather than having every special game have a special chip, just buy the chip externally as the 32X and have the special games require that. In theory it makes sense. Imagine if you could just buy a single SFX chip for the SNES and have that work for starfox, yoshi's island, doom, etc so that all the carts would be normally priced instead of ridiculously expensive each.

Figured, that makes sense. Like I said, I think it's actually a solid idea, the execution was just shit. The thing looked unaesthetic, the cable situation looks like a nightmare, it didn't get enough support to justify, and the Saturn was launching soon. If they had done something similar back in like 1993 and made sure it got proper support, it could've worked. The fact that Nintendo started far earlier with their chipped games, as well as the N64 not hitting shelves until 1-2 years after the others, made it a different situation for the SNES

A lot of people sell just the console in shit condition for that much.

PAL SNES/Super Famicon >> SNS-101 > American SNES

Thats how much I dislike the bland boxy design of the american SNES.

Wouldn't you have been easily able to just get something to convert the RCA to a headphone jack in that case?

here with screenshots showing the wrong frequencies/resolutions: https://assemblergames.com/threads/dms4-se-pro-ps2-how-to-run-ps1-ntsc-imports-at-60hz-via-component.51153/
e.g. posting #4 showing 241p and 59.4Hz instead of 240p and 59.82Hz.

Using a dual frequency oscillator (DFO*) with a ps1 or the homebrew PS1VModeNeg with a ps2 fixes this.

Based. PAL SNES is indeed way better looking than the american one. Nice subtle curves without being a blob.

The Famicom (besides Playchoice and Titler) has shit video signal regardless of what you do because the video chip itself outputs composite instead of RGB for some reason.

nowhere anymore, afaik.
you just can order the pcbs and parts and make it yourself.
too bad you need to make a custom programmer, too.
bit of a waste when you just want to make DFOs for yourself.

are you not presenting your consoles in a nice shelf in your living room to all your visitors, friends and family? LOL!!1
