They really should have given the Game Boy Mega Man games a subtitle or something. Most people I knew overlooked these games because they assumed they were all just ports of the NES games.

At least the first one had "Dr. Wily's Revenge".

This game was always such a big surprise. I especially loved the non-combat focused levels that required you to talk to all the people and figure your way around your objectives.

I also like how you needed to know how to play Black jack or Red Dog to proceed past a certain point int he third level. (And then play at least one round of Baccarat.) It was a fun game and required lots of critical thinking.

the gameboy games have completely new levels. the robot masters are usually taken from a combination of the NES games (1-2, 2-3, etc.) V is a completely original game though and it's fantastic

For 1 through 4 they had staggered sets of 4 bosses each from different NES games (so the first GB game had 4 bosses from NES 1, intermission stage, then 4 bosses from NES 2, and so on for the other games), the stages were original, and each game also added an original "Mega Man Killer" boss with a weapon that didn't exist in any of the NES games

For 5 they went all-out and the bosses, soundtrack, stages, etc. are completely original, even the backstory was different with a bunch of robots from outer space coming in to take over Earth

Should be mentioned that the first GB Mega Man game literally only had six stages. The MM1 Robot Masters got their own stages, but you fought the MM2 Robot Masters in the fifth stage as mid-bosses before fighting the MM-Killer. The sixth stage was solely for Dr. Wily.

Lost doesn't mean destroyed, anon. Maybe some day at least a couple of the GB Mega Man games will have their source codes rediscovered. It happened with System Shock 1, SS2, some graphic adventure games, and UT99 and maybe Thief 1. Nothing is stopping them from searching for them, starting in the place where they last had them.

As its own game, it's rather good, but as a remake, I can't really say it's great. The level layouts and boss fights are completely different, and the only thing that makes you realize it's a remake of the Adventure is some of the enemies. Part of me kind of wishes they had stuck closer to the original but got rid of downgrading your power after being hit and giving subweapons, but maybe just padded in more levels, or gave each level a couple more sections. I almost feel like they just called it a remake to grab some nostalgia bucks. But even so, it's really good.
