It really needs to be played on real hardware. There's not that much flicker, considering how many sprites are on screen. It's basically a masterclass in using the Famicom to its fullest. I think it's a great shoot em up, and I don't particularly care for the genre.

I love the NES so much even to this day. I would've added FF1 but it plays better on PSX.

I found this game called Little Nemo made by capcom. Anyone know if it's any good? I usually like their stuff like megaman and ducktales.

Yeah, Little Nemo is good. I remember renting it as a kid. It was a bit tough for young me and slower-paced than I liked but you can't go wrong with NES Capcom at all.

An N8 is worth it for translated games alone, but it is really fantastic having nearly every NES/FC game at your fingertips on real hardware. My Chinese clone is still doing alright after 2 years; but some games that used to work won't anymore. I think the onboard flash memory is starting to die, will probably pony up for a real one soon.

This, but it's also worth it for Mr. Gimmick. That alone is like $400 now, even a repro is $75-100 due to the special chips and expensive donor carts.

It's pretty cool playing all the japanese only games, many of which are fully english, plus the translations you've mentioned. It's neat to check out FDS games too. The FDS Vs. Excitebike is 2 player, let that sink in, Excitebike as a multiplayer game.

I like that RBI gets updated with current rosters a la Tecmo Bowl, and as a Famicom geek I like it's Famista heritage. Also it's quite simple to understand, but I'm still having a hard time getting even passable at it. I'd like to check out those other games too.

dunno man I haven't played the game since I was 10. RBI Baseball and Rampart are on the list mostly for the fond memories of playing them with friends, I don't know how well they've aged (though Rampart is pretty simple so it's probably still enjoyable).

RBI Baseball was one of the earliest baseball games on the NES and it has a charm and nostalgia for me that others might not have, with its fat little players and catchy music.

But Final Fantasy III? NES version by far man. It really comes down to the soundtrack. The NES soundtrack is fucking CRISPY, the PSP/DS soundtrack is balls.
