You now remember some gaming webcomics started before the cutting line and can -nay, SHOULD- be discussed here

>> No.5076839

8bit Theatre was great but I never saw how it ended.

>> No.5076856

>>5076839
Technically that doesn't make the cutoff as it started in 2001. The same goes for nearly all sprite comics, as Bob & George sparked off that boom and that didn't start until April 2000.

BUT, we've had sprite comic threads here before so I won't go apeshit over it.

>> No.5076864

I remember reading the Dragon Warrior comic that was trying to compete with 8bit theater when I was little.

Then, all of a sudden, the author made a comic where the Hero dies and couldn't be revived until the site did better numbers than 8bit theater. After a months, he kinda realized how salty he was being over the whole thing and continued it. But I think that was the death knell of that comic because it didnt last long after that.

the world of webcomics is a world of drama queens, divas & crybabies. it's not that suprising...

>hiimdaisy nuked her past so she could push her original work which will never be as popular as her MGS & persona comics

>aaron diaz is a textbook example of an internet nice guy whose actions are 100% completely motivated by pussy. and the main character of his comic became his waifu/outlet for whatever his fetishes are because he couldn't let go of ashley birch turning him down

>david willis is basically the nerdy fry cook from clerks 2 but with mommy & daddy issues

>kate leth is a mentally unstable person who literally bragged about fucking a married man with cancer at his funeral to his grieving wife & kids

>buckley is a pedo manlet with anger issues that got him blacklisted from almost every con he attended

Nothing beats good Penny Arcade. The comic has sucked since about late 2011, but I still get many a chuckle from rereading my favourite strips.

Here's a very interesting storyline, from 2001. See if you can draw any parallels from it to the modern state of the industry.

RPG World went on hiatus sometime in 2005 iirc, and Ian Jones Quartey went on to have a career in animation with no plans on finishing the comic. Now he has a show on Cartoon Network so he decided to make a quick epilogue to the comic by having his characters appear in the show in one of the weirdest crossovers ever.

I'm not mad about it like that anon is, but for being one of the few web comics I have fond memories of it's still kinda disappointing there was no true ending that actually wrapped up the story rather than just having a cameo in some kids cartoon.

Yeah, it's a shame that RPG World never wrapped up back in the day. It was probably the best early video game webcomic, and Ian made it when he was a teenager. Awkward Zombie has the benefit of almost always being actually about video games, aside from those occasional 24-hour comics she does, with very little shitty lore or drama about her avatar or whatever. Also, she's one of the only artists that seems to understand comic storyboarding or how facial expressions/body language work.

On the other hand, when she gets hooked on a game I'm not particularly interested in, it tends to make for a lot of comics I just can't relate to, which is a drag. There can be not a lot of variety. Another thing is that she seems to make comics based around different friends' jokes/ideas a lot, and these are really hit and miss.
