is it just cheaper to buy a "untested" console than the cable itself?

In the long run it's probably a better investment to buy a USB/SD reader to replace the GD-ROM drive.

I haven't tried to repair anything retro recently, so unfortunately no fuck-ups to report

Just buy a dc as adapter. The knockoff is around 15 bucks and works with the vast majority of games. It only doesn’t work with some weirdo jap shit

>What's your latest fuck ups?
6-8 Years ago I gave my brother in law and sister 22 N64 games. It was every quality title. Fastforward to this weekend, we get to talking about my everdrive, and I offer it to him for return of all my games. I never checked until I got home.

>No Majora's mask
>No conkers
>No doom
>No Quake II
>WTF is this pokemon snap shit. I didn't buy this.
>Zelda is still in his N64 - he forgot it....
Perhaps he will find more game too.

I held onto Ogre Battle for YEARS without a system, and didn't give it to him. My save is still on it. LOTS of hours. I ended up buying NBA Hangtime when I got my orange N64. Had to have it.

I know how gay it sounds, but I catalog and memorize dumb shit. How the hell is it I can't remember which Christmas I gave him the system and game, but know exactly what titles I gave him? They did have a roommate at the time, so I think perhaps he may have borrowed some of the games. Somehow Starcraft was still there though. I guess I can't complain. I got the Goldeneye game I bought new. It may even still has my saves.

I have no right to get mad. I was a dick when I gave it to them, as it came with the conditions that they never sold or traded the collection, as it took me 10 years to put it together. 4 controllers, rumble packs, memory packs etc. It was the full collection. I think it was dick of me to hold them responsible for something I gave to them. I gave it to them because I do love my sister, even if she is a twat, and she was looking to relive some of her childhood. I think I need to remember how excited they were to get it on that christmas, and just be happy that I could make them happy. She was so happy she squealed. He did too lol. He is the soya type. Now to make matters worse, I now have 2 copies of NBA Hangtime.

Would you trade an Everdrive 2.5 for pic related? Is this a fuck up?

I'm usually good with discs, having my all my og ps1 discs (except dino 2) in great cond. even with all the disc swapping that went on back in the day.

I have a VA1.8 model 2 Genesis so I tried fixing the sound amp myself using a couple of posts from Sega 16. Now you can't hear parts of the music anymore but at least the bass isn't muddy.

>> No.5075909

I found an atari in my grandparents house, I guess it was a gift for my mother back when she was around 20 or so. I set it up and try using my genesis controller, and that works. So then I get the idea to try hooking the atari controller into my genesis and using that. Except I guess while the plugs are the same, the atari controllers are ever so slightly larger. Too tight for the genesis' sockets. I end up busting the player one controller socket.

Now I need to resolder the damn thing.

>Would you trade an Everdrive 2.5 for pic related? Is this a fuck up?

I wouldn't have made that trade, and you may have fucked up. Mostly because you'll probably end up buying another ever drive, meaning you will have spent nearly $400 to play n64 games every once in a while. The overall value of the carts doesn't really come in as a factor as you're never going to sell them to recoup some of that cost. So in one fell swoop you've:
Made yourself an Indian giver. it doesn't matter that you traded for an ever drive, you took back a gift and probably pressured your sister/brother in law to trade.
Created this weird tension between you and your sister/brother in law by asking for the games back and finding out some are missing.
Soured any positive memory your sister had attached to the christmas/n64.

But at least you got your childhood toys back, right?

I only ever fucked up once. Tried to solder a modchip onto my XBOX HUEG mobo. I didnt order any flux with it, so making the solder points was a pain in the ARSE. In the end it got so bad, i sprayed hot solder all over the board and that was the end of my HUEG XBOX. Sold the parts on ebay and bought a jap mega drive and a few rare games for it. Good riddance imo.

Actually there was none of that. He asked me about the ever drive, and I simply offered it to him for all of his games. They don't give a fuck about physical media, and they plug their N64 into an LCD screen and are 100% content with that. They really care one bit lol. Hell, just yesterday he was talking about giving me all of his N64 stuff...system controllers AND everdrive for one of my modded wiis. He is more interested in game cube games then N64. Believe me there is no animosity. Try not to think about their perspective from the /vr/ one. They are nothing like us. (ultra-casual would be how I would describe them) They don't see it as Indian giving either, I just saved them a whole boatload of space and time. There are about 3 other titles aside from the ones I have that I would want to get, but its not that important, and would be cheaper then another everdrive, But you are right, I will probably go spend another $120 for another one. I am not poor, and $120 for a video game device is pocket change to me. I will still end up buying a copy of majora's mask, quake 2 and Conkers also.

>>5076821
>But at least you got your childhood toys back, right?
Not at all accurate lol. When the N64 came out I was living on my own and had my own life. OUR childhood memories are the NES, which my brother has. She was still living at home when mom and dad got their n64, which mom still plays DAILY. This may give you an idea of how screwed up my family is. Mom is a pot head who is retired. All the bills are paid, and she owns everything. She likes to spend an hour or so every night either playing MK64 or Mario. She will wup your ass at MK. One of the most skilled racers I have ever played, and is the only person I have not beaten in the last 10 years. To make matters worse, no one in our family has been able to get 1st place while she is playing lol.

I also created unintended consequences. My brother got back into the N64 last year, and asked me about the Everdrive. He bought one. Then EVERY one of his friends had to have one. My brother knew nothing about it until I showed him, and as a direct result of him learning, at least 8 other people now have bought them. These are people who will NEVER buy an overpriced collectible game ever again. I expect the same to happen with my Brother in law and his friends. The more people who use flash carts, the less people shopping for games. Supply and demand for physical media becomes irrelevant once you have a flash drive. The amazement they have is because you no longer have to be a collector to be a gamer. You can be a casual scrub and still have access to more titles then any collector without a full set.
