So why exactly did they fuck up the brick breaking in Mario 1&2LL? I played through 2 and 3, they seemed fine for the most part to me. I don't 100% agree on some graphic and music changes but the gameplay seemed fine if not identical to the originals.

Then there's Mario 1 and Lost Levels with the weird fucking brick breaking not working, did they not play test this or something? It's literally apparent within the first 10 seconds of play. Even the most casual of players will notice the difference immediately. Was it intentional?

pretty much this. only spergs care about the brick physics

In what way does the brick breaking not work? I remember the bricks breaking just fine when I hit them as big Mario.

I am sorry Nintendo ruined your life by making a slight change to brick physics that people only notice if they're looking for it.

>> No.5071221

All signs point to it being a legitimate mistake, it's a single value that reverses Mario's velocity that's easily patched out. They'd have likely applied the change to the other games if they thought it was an improvement.

I didn't notice it. Then again maybe it's because I didn't play both version back to back immediately, but I played the NES SMB a lot as a kid, and when I got All Stars in 1994 I didn't really notice it.

This. All signs point to it basically being a typo. How none of the playtesters noticed it, however, is beyond me.

That's pretty nifty. Must be satisfying to be able to fix a game you loved when you were a kid like that.

The "NESised version" looks interesting too, though I'm not too sure what the point is.

It's not that they don't break, it's that they don't bump Mario back down like he does in the Original game, it actually pulls him slightly further up.

Doesn't matter to me though, there's a patch for that.

I get the point of it, I'm not a fan of the way the All-Stars version looks. However, my issue wasn't the fact that the floor isn't made of bricks anymore or that the bushes don't look like recolored clouds... I think the backgrounds of SMB1 All-Stars is fine. My issue is that Mario's sprite clashes with everything else in the game, since they just imported the Mario 3 sprite with it's bold outlines, but all the enemies and objects in the game don't have outlines at all.

Am I right to say that i prefer plaing the original nes ones?? for some reason, i feel like these 16-bits adaptions run slower
i don't know, there is something that just feels off

Whether or not you agree with Jerry's controversial jump, one thing remains true: this is the Mario jump that completely changed the way the world games. Never before has a jump changed the course of both gaming and human history on a dime, and for this we have only to thank jihadjerry.

Semper Games.
