Can you name 5 good JRPGs for the Mega Drive? I was looking for action rpgs and only found 3 games

The big ones that everyone likes, Shining Force, Shining Force 2, Phantasy Star 2, Phantasy Star 4. There are a couple action RPGs that people like, like Beyond the Oasis and Crusader of Centy. The Genesis Shadowrun game is really good; I like it more than the SNES one. Dungeons and Dragons: Warriors of the Eternal Sun is absolutely great and better than any of the Gold Box games for the PC. There are a couple other ones that are pretty good too, and I didn't include the Sega CD.

But the most overlooked and one of my absolute favorite Genesis RPGs is called Sorcerer's Kingdom. It's a turn-based RPG strategy RPG where you play as a knight trying to gain fame and rank through exploring. There a bunch of vignettes where you wander around doing mostly unrelated quests, and eventually, as you gain more party members, the game becomes about stopping a big bad guy. But it's such a cool game to explore; it has a great atmosphere, parts of the world feel really dangerous, the missions are fun, and the music rules.

Definitely check out Sorcerer's Kingdom. It really is a great overlooked game.

The three big Zelda clones (Soleil, Story of Thor and Light Crusader) are pretty good, but the RPG library is a bit lacking. Phantasy Star 4 and Ys 3 are my favourites. Rent a Hero too, but that's more like a proto Shenmue. Not a fan of Shining Force, Landstalker or Langrisser, but people tend to like those too.

>Can you name 5 good J-RPGs for the Mega Drive/Genesis?
Phantasy Star, Phantasy Star II, Phantasy Star End of The Millennium, Landstalker, Shining Force, Shining Force II, any Eiyuu Densetsu, Uncharted Waters, Langrisser 2, Vixen 357, Legend of The Monkey King (YES, it's THIS one that they're currently REMAKING for PS 4), Surging Aura, Beyond Oasis/Story of Thor (the much SUPERIOR sequel is only on the Saturn, though), Fushigi No Umi No Nadia, Arcus Odyssey, Ys III, Bahamut Senki, Rent-A-Hero, XZR II (a.k.a. Exile. This is a sequel to MSX's game, so go figure if you'd like to play this without playing first game first or not. The game was HEAVILY censored in US, so playing Japanese original is a MUST), Traysia, Light Crusader, Madou Monogatari I (other Madou games are superior, but this one's very solid too. Also, the "I" there is for reason, as there is another Madou Monogatari and it's a completely different game).

No. It's rather different from Madou Monogatari 1 on GG, MSX, PCE and PC98 which also deal with Arle's kindergarten graduation.
The MD game has a unique spell system where you have button combos instead of selecting spells from a list.

Speaking of gold box D & D games, here is an often overlooked RPG gem on the Genesis.

>Phantasy Star IV
turn-based, best of the bunch, good story and characters, nice anime-style panels and I fucking love the spell combos
>Lunar: Eternal Blue
CD, turn-based, improved over the already good original in almost all aspects, despite being less popular
>Shining Force II
S-RPG, also improved over the great original
>Beggar Prince
turn-based, very unique taiwanese RPG translated and released by Super Fighter Team
>Brave Battle Saga
turn-based, Breath of Fire-esque, also from Taiwan, translated a few years ago and recently released in cart form by Piko Interactive

>Madou Monogatari 1 on GG, MSX, PCE and PC98
You are a moron. There is no "1" in that. The "I" is "1" in Madou I on Genesis, even though it's not the first game. This is because there is also another game (not first Madou) on Super Famicom which is a direct sequel of that (of Madou I on Genesis specifically, NOT of Madou in general) - Hanamaru Daiyouchi Enji. This game is DIRECT sequel of Madou I on Genesis/MegaDrive and nothing else, so it's technically "Madou Monogatari II", albeit Super Famicom's.

>has a unique spell system where you have button combos instead of selecting spells
You've clearly never played the goddamn game, you piece of shit. There are NO "button" combos, just mere fighting game-like directional inputs and one button press. It's like playing a 2D fighting game, spells are done by inputting qcf, hcf, circle, dp, and other 2D fighting game-like motions. It's same as with that Sabine's Blitz in FF VI.

So it's basically like, a button combo perhaps?

Respec' knuckles. Played this semi recently and I quite enjoy its battle system, you can engage battle at any time in a field, but you've gotta be careful not to take on too much, so it becomes a game of trying to get a safe amount of enemies onscreen while you build weapon proficiency. The plot isn't anything great but gotta love fields/dungeons.

King Colossus is sorta decent and hasn't been mentioned, very gloomyfeeling action rpg with a bunch of different weapon types and some atmospheric music.

isn't Sorcerer's Kingdom super hard at first?
