If I were only going to play one, which should I play:silver star or eternal blue?
Yeah I know, play both but help me out.

Both. And on Sega CD

Silverstar.
Half of eternal blue's charm comes from seeing how much the world has changed since the first game.

This seems like good advice, thanks.

SSSC is one of the best jrpgs ever made.

EB is a rehash, its more of the same, which is fine but not groundbreaking. and I liked the plot and chars in the first more

Silver Star. Eternal Blue's storyline is like really bad fan fiction written by a 12 year old who just finished playing Silver Star.

Also, learn Japanese and play the JP versions so you don't have to deal with WD's shitty localization. They ruin every game they touch.

if you're new, play the ps1 version of silver star story complete first.

then play the sequel on ps1. they're a bit easier, still fun. fun bosses. spell names on the combat menu. no random encounters.

but I love sega cd for the first...but the ps1 version is more accessible

I feel like the translation is part of the charm, but that's me. Probably a good idea to use the patches that remove the gameplay changes, though.

Here, you can see what they do, how to apply them, etc. The gameplay changes only made the games more tedious, not better or more interesting.

Play the first one...then the second one. They're both wonderful games.
I'd skip the PSP version, it looks decent but it removed most of the challenge and some features.
The GBA version is a neat little alternate story where some things take place in a different order.
