How much does it typically cost to contract someone to do a translation job for a game?
I just ordered Act 1 and Act 2 of Back Guiner for the Sega Saturn.
It's a tactical RPG, anyone played it?

Depends, could go from 100k to 1m if we're talking a full RPG.

Should have done QuoVadis instead.

Tactical RPGs were a dime-a-dozen in Japan around then. Is that one worth checking out?

It's a real shame the creator died before he could finish the final game

Do you like mecha?
Do you like robeasts?
Do you like tentacle rape?
Do you like 90's anime?
Do you like full fledged 90's anime FMVs?
Do you like cute anime girls?
Do you like having anime FMVs for each attack?
Do you like ridiculous 90's anime plot lines?
Do you like tactical RPGs?

Well, if you do, you're in luck!

i feel like you could pay a hobbyist translator $10k to do it.

An important detail: Do you actually just want it translated, or do you want/expect to receive a patched ISO file of the game with the full translation inserted into it from the person you hire?

How do you ensure you get an actual translation instead of made up bullshit?

>> No.5050213

Translating a game would require you to locate and extract the text files, translate them, have the translator play through the game to make sure they don't miss any context, and then edit the translation, and then have translation hacked back into the game. By the time that could find someone and have them get done, even with a professional translator, you could learn enough Japanese to play most of these games

You'd be better off just learning Japanese to play your weebgames.

If you happen to be rich, then start your own localization company.

Rates typically range between $0.02 per character for an anime wageslave and $0.05 per character for a "real" translator.

There are about a hundred romhacking tutorials on this planet. Read them and ask more specific questions in their proper places, no someone elses thread. That said virtually none of the games back in the days break if you change some bytes, I have no idea what you are doing.
